(Rating based on play it will see in the upcoming meta, similar to trump’s ratings)

    4 Stars

Extremely powerful effect on a 2 drop is the kind of card that always sees play, how much play? Probably only in tier two decks with mage losing vital cards like dragon’s fury and frost lich Jaina.
I will note that the potential of Janalai + Khadgar is disgustingly strong, but with the loss of Baku, its much harder to pull of Janalai.

Well done. You accurately guessed (as of now) the card’s rating. First time you paid attention.

In case you had not noticed, I am guessing the card’s star rating in terms of how much play it will see in the upcoming meta, not based of what the hearthstone topdecks rating will be.

Well i already mentioned the return of tempo mage with the new dragon card. This can be used with splitting image etc in secret mage for the secret mage version of tempo. while the dragon can see play in the dragon version.
Overall the new standart archetype for tempo includes some very expensive dust wise cards. The reason why tempo mage was that popular was not its power but th efact that it was cheep. And it did play like an arena deck. Where arena players were kind of rewarded with this playstyle as their skills increase.
Overall this synergizes with a ton of epic cards for just some tempo value and its effect is unique. Its like the brann bronzebeard without the OTK synergyes.

Just to name out the class “Summon Cards”: Astromancer, Janalai, Mirror Image, Mirror Entity, Spellbender, Splitting Image, Unexpected Results and Power of Creation! You can also discover a Khadgar with Messenger Raven. LOL so much power!

Would Jan’alai be able to summon 2 Ragnaros’ on 9 ? That is pretty good value there. Better than Zola on 10 because both Ragnarosii would be on the same turn…

Not consistent enough, and not powerful enough when you do get a good combo with this. But mostly inconsistent. 2/5

Woooot? You can play so many cards with that as combo! Astromancer, Janalai, Mirror Image, Mirror Entity, Spellbender, Splitting Image, Unexpected Results and Power of Creation! You can also discover a Khadgar with Messenger Raven. I think its such a strong card! Pure value, truly Minimum 4/5! Hilarious combo with splitting image!

Hm, I forgot about Jan’Alai. That and power of Creation do add to a decent number of cards that combo well with this. I don’t think the combo with the other cards is very relevant, but you convinced me, I was too harsh on this guy.

I don’t think he’s quite 4/5 though. Against aggro and midrange you probably just have to play him on curve as a 2/2 for 2 mana. I still think he suffers a lot from consistency as a dead card in your hand for most of the game, which is the biggest problem; and even when you pull off the combo, other control decks can answer this + power of creation with Twisting Nether, Shrink Ray + Wild Pyro, maybe Vanish if a slower Rogue deck is functional. If they can’t then that combo wins you the game, like Alanna. I’ll give it 3/5

        Forgetting about Hex Crow?

good effect but the class kinda restricts it, very select mage decks could run it which makes the legendary tag pretty bad.
making it not legendary could make these decks to powerful though.
i think it would serve best as a neutral card and raising the mana cost by 1-2

Quite obviously Khadgar is a combo enabler. I just don’t see many of those combos being good in Mage at this moment. The stream showed one obvious combo, but at ten mana I feel like most Mage decks could be doing better things.

This won’t be an effect an aggressive leaning Mage deck would want to use, but maybe there could be something with a minion mage deck using Book of Specters or something.

Well there is the fact that it’s be good if you had a splitting image secret out drop this and a taunt and if they don’t kill it you’d have 2 extra taunts. Since it’s a possible pull from messenger raven if pull a second you could do this. But mostly this card won’t see play till late game it just has scary potential if get it to work.

What taunts are you going to play in Mage post rotation?

What reason will there be to play secrets when Arcanologist rotates?

Why would you rely on a combo as specific, mana intensive (Likely costing a full tend mana for a decent taunt minion like Rotten Applebaum when a Blizzard), and easily disruptable to keep you alive?

This sort of card is much better when played to actively advance your own position on the board over trying to figure out how a two health minion can be used defensively and reactively on turn ten.

This is way overhyped. It may fit into reno-mage tho. Main synergies I’m thinking about are molten reflection (idk if this is possible) to try and give Reno Mage the otk Anton + Thaurissan as a control counter (esp pesky mecha c’thun renolock). 2ndly it could synergize with kazakus’ demon summon and minion res – it would be a much more popular option if you could fill a board for 7 mana from hand with “summon 2 random minions that died this game; summon a 5:5 demon” let alone when he sticks on board into a 6 card res + other effect (although these are more co-incidental than deck warping).

Khagar just has a LOT of Variety for Mage, that it almost feels like if he is his own Zilliax in a sence were he has so much Value to give you. It can come in maybe shapes and forms of powering up, if you manage to draw him.

P.S. He’s also beast friends with Witchwood Piper, if you don’t have any 1 mana minions.

Here are the Minions that Khadgar can combo with:

Mirrior Image: Usual for Zoo Mage, for when you need early protection 1 Mana 0/8 is pretty good.

    Murloc Tidehunter: Murloc Mage (Kinda)
    F
ormer Champ: 7 Mana 13/13 lul

Mecharoo’s Deathrattle: usful for Blast wave with discount.

Microtech Controler & Replicating Meance (of all things): Very usual for Blast Wave for Resources

Scarab Egg: Potential Tempo Mage Deck idea?

Whrilglider & Explodnator: Bomb Mage is now a Possibly.

Astromancer & Giggling Inventor: Casual Control Mage Combo

Mechanical Whelp: Mech Mage Makes a Return?

Splitting Image: Secret Mage’s new Trick up His/Her Sleeve (This will summon 2 Khadgar which are going to be powerful soft-taunts becuase of how much value you are going to get.)

Cairne Bloodhoof: Just a very usual card for mage, all of a sudden (In my opinion).

Hogger: For the Meme Mages out there, Hogger is now a Viable Pick. Congrats, dude.

Illidan Stormrage: 8 Mana can’t get more value without using 3 card combo. feelsbad

Oondasta: Big Beast Mage is a Possibliy beucase it’s going to summon 2 Beasts in 1 Overkill.

People keep mentioning power of creation, but what about unexpected results? Unexpected results + cosmic anomaly + Kadgar is also a great combo. That is four, four cost minions (16 mana worth) for ten mana. Seems legit, 5/5

This is what I was thinking! But the 2MC Elemental would be cheaper for the same turn. 8MC as opposed to 10. The only problem is that the card (can’t remember the name, but it is a Mage card) only lasts for the turn in which it was summoned in.

Wow and since he’s a mage minion messenger raven can possibly pull a second copy meaning more value. Looks like mage is a late game summoner class now so far you do not want mage getting to late game so early game survival will be key.

Blizzard: We think combo decks are generally unhealthy for the game

Well, at least any combo this would enable gives the opponent a turn to respond.

If you say so soupy, I’m just worried that those meddling apprentices and their mutt Antonidus-doo might be up to something with this card in the future.

An Exodia mage sounds nearly untenable without some amount of mana cheating, especially if it relies on a card that cannot be discounted by Sorcerer’s Apprentice.

I love the flavor and novelty of its effect! It’s exactly what we needed for some underplayed cards to have a chance to shine. There are even some sneaky cards for this to activate like Mirror Image and Splitting Image. This + Jan’alai is practically a finisher by itself. The list goes on.

The only downside is that you’re only allowed one of these in your deck, and he’s such a big, weak target you can’t expect him to last more than the turn you play him. Are cards like Astromancer, Mirror Image, Unexpected Results, etc going to carry the deck enough in the many turns you won’t be able to combo them with Kadghar? Should be fun to find out!

That combo with Power of creation. 10 mana for four 6 cost minions. 24 mana worth.
