I played this with a meme deck in ranked, and my opponent, realizing it was a meme deck let me build about 7 of these, and it didn’t do anything to him, my opponent’s many cheap minions were just mostly soaking up all the 5 damage. This card is hilarious. I played as a Rogue, used Faceless Manipulator and Shadow of Death.

2 Months has passed since the release of Uldum
But I’ve yet to witnessed a deck made of this.. Is this card really playable?

Meme card of the set, and it’s not even close to good when you get the combo off. 1/5

Only deck I can see pulling it off as an otk is Druid, card is definitely outclassed in wild for combo potentials but in standard it might stand a chance.

Possible activators I can think of in standard:
    Neutral: Faceless Manipulator, Dollmaster Dorian
    Druid: Goopsprayer, Floopmaster, Elise
    Paladin: quest
Priest: resurrection effects, Seance, PW: Replicate, Vivid Nightmare, and technically Unsleeping Soul
    Rogue: scheme, Lab Recruiter
Warrior: Bloodsworn Mercenary, Dimensional Ripper, Boom Reaver

Of all these, druid seems to be the only one with a chance, and that assumes some Jepetto -> Elise chicanery. And even then: you have one strong turn, and then you’re done. Your opponent doesn’t even need to board-clear–they just need to take out all but 2 obelisks. I’m sure they’ll announce a few more cards with some potential synergy, but cards like this make me cry which I open them.

In my opinion, I would still say to just play Star Aligner at that point.

No rogue has best chance of making this work.

Rogue has the best way for getting extra copies into her deck, but then she still needs to draw them and has no way to discount them–unless you count Togwaggle’s Wand, and at that point seriously why aren’t you just playing Leeroy instead? Keep in mind: this is a 5-mana cost card so you can only play 2 per turn without a trick, and they’re 0/5 so they die to almost anything that late in the game.

Druid can play Obelisk, Faceless, and Goopsprayer all in the same turn so long as Jepetto hit two of them, and that give you 4. Elise’s battlecry will replicate the discount, giving you even more potential ways to make 3 or more on the same turn (or possibly even 6 if you can replicate a discounted Goopsprayer). The problem, again, is that it’s just too easy for your opponent to reclaim board, and then what to you do?

          July 22, 2019 at 5:14 pm

Well technically you can do something along the lines of discount this via florist. Then copy it using Elise, bounce Elise with brewmaster or put a copy back in deck with banker, then the second Elise would make four copies. If you run all the bounce effects along with baleful it means you could have a full board of these for zero mana, then just board clear and OTK. Problem is of course druid’s lack of removal to make this happen and the shear amount of set up required. Maximum memes can happen with this card.

I allready wrote a comment, but seems you only read the reply’s on your own comment.

Get a Heistbarron + Spirit of Shark for double Draw 3x cards. Myra’s unstable element your deck. Togwaggle’s Scheme 7+ Desert Obelisk into your deck. And draw all 6 of them and play them all for 6 mana. And you do 30 damage.
Alternative is that you shadow step a Dollmaster Dorian and play that with the treasure draw so you get 6x 1-1 Desert Obelisk. And after that you can still play the 6x 0 cost Obelisk + a 5 mana cost version.

Anyway the rogue version is more reliable compared to the druid one, and guarenteed to get 6 or more on the board, unlike druid. And your remark about leeroy is silly. Why bother with anything, just go for T1 decks only is kind of what your saying. And 30 damage a turn for 2x turns in a row is even hard to deal with for a warrior.

          • Drbedspread
            July 23, 2019 at 11:07 am

Problem is here the shear setup for a combo of that level… Firstly being you need to draw a single copy of Myra’s, which isn’t super high odds. Secondly you have to play shark and heistbaron which requires a two turn setup because you need a lackey down, or have a way of discounting one of the three cards or having a coin; thus requiring even more setup. Thirdly you need to have a scheme in hand for 7+ turns, which means 70%+ of the game against any non-control deck, and that’s assuming you drew it by turn 3. This deck would literally only be able to beat two decks, control shaman and control warrior; and that’s assuming they don’t catch onto what you’re doing and just start going face. Rogue has next to no board clears, and nearly no healing outside of say spectral cutlass, which requires you to pull cards from other classes on top of attempting to set up this Rube Goldberg machine of a combo.

            >>I allready wrote a comment, but seems you only read the reply’s on your own comment.
No offense meant; I just usually don’t re-read these threads after I go through them once.

            >>Get a Heistbarron + Spirit of Shark for double Draw 3x cards. Myra’s unstable element
            >>your deck. Togwaggle’s Scheme 7+ Desert Obelisk into your deck. And draw all 6 of
            >>them and play them all for 6 mana. And you do 30 damage.
I guess that could work; I just cringe at all the necessary conditions (you forgot needing either coin or Prep for your Myra turn) and how slow, all to setup a combo that probably won’t even present lethal. But you do you, man–if chasing this meme makes you happy, by all means, go for it.

Mage could do something; especially in wild.

Archmage Arugal, Echo of Medivh, Molten Reflection, Simulacrum, Duplicate.. perhaps even Splitting Image (naaah..)

However I cannot see any way it would be a good deck. You would have to build the entire deck around using these cards, and its just not going to work. It would lose even vs Easy Training dummy decks.

So the only class i can see this make work into a T4 or T3 deck is Rogue.

And the druid combo is: Ixlid, Innervate, Obelisk, Floop. But this combo’s cost is 3600 dust, and I think, I don’t really want to spend my dust on shits like this.

But, all obelisk deals damage, or just one? Because this is very important. Five Obelisk deals 25 damage or just 5?

    • Skoopy
      July 22, 2019 at 2:59 am

No no! Each of them deals 5 damage if you control 3 of them. So its 15 in total.

Star aligner 2.0? Honestly seems like a card intended for those willing to figure out how to make it work and then end up in a highlight reel. While i think in some cases its better then star aligner as eqch minion deals 5 damage, it seems much more inefficient then anything you can do in mage for big damage turns

  15. Essexmcintosh
    July 21, 2019 at 11:54 pm

I don’t think that the question should be whether the effect is strong. Getting 4 or five or three then three on board wins the game.
The question is how do we play 3 of them in one turn? Have 3 floops in hand? doubble sommoning portal?

  16. A person who reacts to this
    July 21, 2019 at 10:26 pm

Well it can do 60-75 damage in one turn if played right… But still everyone favorite dragon is still better.

    • Decycle
      July 22, 2019 at 1:29 am

Does its effect count as end of turn?

    • Skoopy
      July 22, 2019 at 3:02 am

Iam going to correct your counting. Dont know how you will get 60 damage? If you control 3 of them, each will deal 5 damage. So its only 15 in one turn. Can you describe how you count 60? I mean combo is there for sure. But even if i count maximum of 6 for double the combo, its only 30 in one turn. Even than, i dont know how to pull of 6 of them in one turn, in standard.

        July 22, 2019 at 3:45 am

He means if it works with Drakkari Enchanter which cause end of turn effects to trigger twice so 6 = 30 x2 from Enchanter = 60.

      • Xix
        July 22, 2019 at 4:17 am

Drakkari Enchanter but that’s wild. But rogue can do this easy, just play pogo rogue without pogo’s and this instead. XD

Maybe use in a resurect/clone deck that runs Lady in White? Would at least make this a 5/5 when pulled from deck.

    • Moridain
      July 21, 2019 at 8:16 pm

So you need to draw a 6 mana legendary BEFORE drawing either of the towers, then bring it out to give them a buff. And you need a way to duplicate the towers. And then you need to find a way to get at least one of them to stick, since they cost 5 mana each.
This is already a minimum 4 card combo.

      • Lluadian
        July 21, 2019 at 9:06 pm

I mentioned lady in White because a few res priest run minions that have higher health than attack. On that note it might be at least somewhat useful.

  19. MilesTegF
    July 21, 2019 at 6:21 pm

This one has combo potential writen all over it, specially in wild.
Now, on standard, my first guess would be that this kind of fits (akwardly tho) in ressurect Priest, and it has the extra flexibility of being a decent target for divine spirit+Inner fire if it survives one turn (probably wont).

Now, regarding actually activating the obelisks, the easier way i can think of (that doesnt requiere it surviving a turn) is on T9 by directly summoning one and then copying it with 2xShadowy Figures. (you could also summon one on T9 and copy it with 2xSeance to then on T10 summon those two with Talanji and a third one with Shadowy figure). But even then, i doubt this would be enough of a payoff for the investment considering that you would be contaminating your pool of minions to be ressurrected, given that you would preffer any other minion to be ressurected by the spell, unless you could guarantee to revive all 3 at once.

I think the card has some potential, but it seems that making it work is not that easy and even if you do, it doesnt make that much of an impact necesarilly.. ideally, you would want to deal 15dmg to the enemys face, but for example, if you activate this and the enemy board is not empty, you could end up not killing any enemy minions if they have 6+ Health, or if they are 1 Health tokens, you could overkill 3 enemy minions wasting 12 of the 15 dmg… i think for this to work consistenly, you would need a way to activate this with 5-7 copies on board or have a way to duplicate the effect (similar to how Drakkari Enchanter could do in wild)

Mixed feelings about this one. It took me a few moments to realise that it’s not impossible to pull off, but is it unplayable? Star Aligner was never expected to be a thing, after all. Slow control decks will probably have a few means of removing minions so you can expect a good amount of damage to hit face, and classes without easy 5 damage to respond will be frantically trying to attack into this. I fully expect a Trolden video of Alexstrasza one turn, then Desert Obelisk + Coin + 2x Vivid Nightmare for the win at some point.

Personally I’m glad I’m not skilled enough to have ever been in the blast radius of Star Aligner degeneracy.

I love it. Some streamer will make an OTK Druid deck with this and the new Elise card. However, I rate my cards on constructive play value, so it’s gonna be a 1/5 from me.

    July 21, 2019 at 5:33 pm

I wish it had a different cost or more health or something – it’s a cool idea, but if you’re looking for clone/burst memes wouldn’t it be better just to do Leeroy + Faceless?

Paladin’s quest reward comes to mind, but not even Blackwood Pixie lets you pull it off with 10 mana. Druid May have the best shot, you just need Dreampetal Florist to hit this, Floop, or Faceless.

It’s not impossible to imagine a world where this is viable, but it would take many, many strong synergy cards which we obviously don’t have right now. Clearly a mad science card at the moment.

I am still deciding whether or not to preorder this set…

Let’s just say cards like this are not only making me hesitant… they are making me want to protest this set by not preordering…

This game is way too expensive for them to waste our time with cards this lame.

Oh wow… Hmmm… This one’s an interesting one for sure. If you actually manage to pull this off it deals 15 damage to the opponent/their minions

While I think this is mostly a meme cards like Star Aligner this one isn’t nearly as hard to pull of, why? Resurrection and cloning. In other words, priest. If there’s actually some support for this, it might just be crazy enough to work.

        Aviana -> Coin -> Kun -> Obelisk -> Faceless -> Faceless -> Drakkari enchanter is 30 damage, or Aviana -> Coin -> Kun -> Obelisk -> Cube -> Faceless -> Naturalize -> Naturalize -> Drakkari enchanter is 40

    • ActualWaterfowl
      July 21, 2019 at 6:08 pm

Star Aligner was the backbone of what was arguable the strongest deck ever to see play in this game, prior to the Aviana nerf. It’s worth keeping that in mind.
