Oh yeah, since this card is basically a better cabalist’s tome, it’s absolute garbo and will never see play in any gamemode for sure. Why would blizzard make such a bad card? A 3 mana constructed card bundled with basically a 5 mana also constructed card for 5? Get out of here, 4 mana and wouldn’t see any play ever.

    What a joke.

Except how does this consistently kill 3 1 health minions? Get real.

Yes, people are underrating this card. Kill some aggro guys, next turn leyline manipulator your hand and you will have a good tempo swing next turns.

It’s like Consecration, only it costs more mana and instead of hitting your opponents’ face it hits your own minions, PLUS you get a free copy of Glacial Mysteries to clog up your hand.

10/10, this baby will more than make up for losing Dragon’s Fury and Meteor come the next rotation.

Mainly a value card. For Wild this will most likely see little play. For Standard though, depending on the board, this can grant you many extra spells. Most likely a one of in a deck. but we will see.

This card is somewhat situational for sure. The problem with AOE is that it rarely overkills, you play it when it is just barely able to kill most of a board. That being said, I think it works best with Celestial Emissary, but do you really want to be using that card in a deck?

I guess its not as bad as it looks, actually, now that I think about it. If you play it with thalnos, or emissary, you do overkill your own minion, getting you an guaranteed +1.

If you prepare the enemy board well, you can fill your hand with random spells (up to 7). Remember, Overkill triggers for every minion you Overkill. So this is like Lyra random spellfiesta (loved this word in comment below). 4/5 cause random fun spellparty.

    1/5

2/5 mage has better board clears

I’m not too hype on this card. It’s volcanic potion that, for an extra two mana, occasionally gives you random mage spells. Not only is it likely going to be difficult to get the random value, but control mage and quest mage both tend to have hand-size issues, and adding jank to you hand just exacerbates that.

The only deck that probably wants to run this is Odd Mage, if only because it’s an additional board clear and also has good synergy with Dragon’s Fury. But it might not be worth it even for that, depending on what kind of deck Odd Mage is and whether it wants to run Fury in the first place.

btw triggers for every minion killed, therefore, I give it 4/5 simply for the value opportunities.

This is very good for odd mage. Right now, the deck is forced to run terrible spells like luna’s pocket galaxy or book of wonders because flamestrike alone isn’t enough to fuel dragon’s fury.

Sounds like random spells fiesta vs odd pally.

Seems like quest mage support. Wouldn’t run it for other strategies.

Combine with Celestial Emmisary and you get a 7 mana flamestrike that also refills your hand.

I think people forgets this is only good vs Odd Paladin because you need to do EXCESS damage to get the random spells. Still a decent card but it’s like 3/5

Blast Wave can become a nightmare for Odd Paladin decks. A little bit of Spell Damage, something Odd Mage can provide with relative ease, could also turn this into a reasonable card generation engine. With this and the Loa, Odd Mage is beginning to take a concrete shape, but it could probably use a couple more decent minions.

While a viable card on its own right, it is truly exiting for another reason: At last Odd mage can run Dragoncaller Alanna without having to play Deck of Wonders.

    New Deck!
I actually still use this deck it’s. Drum roll. Big spell quest mage, or is that already a thing? Still I love it

I feel as though hearthstone is trying to make big spell quest mage a new archetype (whatever that means). In case you aren’t aware, Hearthstone keeps on providing us with cards that give to us (5) cost cards. This can still be formatted into Standard as Un’ Goro is still standard

Reverse power creep on Volcanic Potion. Even if the overkill procs, it is not worth it.

If it procs 4 times though…

It only needs to proc once to be viable against VP. Twice or more and it’s starting to be clearly better.

No? it wouldn’t need to proc twice to go even. Discovering a spell is roughly 1 mana. You dont even get that here since you can get garbage like pocket galaxy or the new shatter card. Cabalist Tome wasnt ran in every mage deck because random mage cards are too varied. I wouldn’t cut Dragon’s Fury for this at all especially since there are usually a lot of X/3’s compared to X/2’s.

Does Overkill trigger for each minion killed? i.e. you get three spells by dealing two damage to three, one-health minions?

      For sure.

That is incredible, actually. All mage cards from this expansion seems to try to trigger the Jan’alai’s effect of summoning Ragnaros the Firelord.

I’m not following how this has anything to do with Jan’alai.
