Demon Hunter Nerfs – Coming Out… TODAY?!

Update: Nerfs got announced!

Right after spending the last few hours writing about the decks that counter Demon Hunter, we got hit with news from Iksar. It seems that devs are also thinking that Demon Hunter is overpowered, and they’ve decided to do something about it. Blizzard are trying to set up a record they probably won’t beat in a long time, because the patch is coming out TODAY!

No details were announced yet, but the cards they’re looking at are:

Additionally, Demon Hunter will also receive some nerfs in Arena. They are still waiting for more data before making larger scale changes, but they wanted to address the new class quickly.

Another patch should come out next week, most likely after they already figure things out and get more data.

We’ll keep you updated and post the exact cards that are getting changed once they’re announced.

Probably a needed nerf, but honestly i don’t like the way they did it. Crafted an entire deck just to play with demon hunter (quite a bit of dust btw) and then its nerfed to the point where its just not very strong. And I can only get dust back for the specific cards that was nerfed and not for the entire deck.

I know that you expect balance changes in a card game, and that is fine. But i crafted it yesterday and got 4 games in and then when i woke up and wanted to play over breakfast it was nerfed.

I think that when they do it on such short notice, it should be possible to regain all dust from cards crafted the day before. It has to be assumed that a lot of people are itching to play the new class and will craft everything to get a good deck right off the bat.

So we’re all gonna pretend Libram Paladin doesn’t have any problems with their 3-cost Libram Of Hope

I have to agree with these nerfs. I made a demon hunter deck with no reference from other sources like netdecking and Youtubers, and i currently have an 85% winrate out of 25 games. The only 4 games I lost were 3 demon hunters that ran Priestess of Fury (where I did not because mine was an aggro list), all of which pulled the classic Skull of Guldan on 5 and got the backbreaking discounts on Antaen and Fury. The other loss was to a Highlander mage who kept freezing my face so I couldn’t proq my “On Attack” synergies. Other than those matches, I won 21 matches (11 in a row on the ranked ladder) with almost no competition. Only card I may question is the Aldrachi Warblades, and that’s only because I feel that is a staple part of what would make him viable and different in terms of weapons.

I do understand why they decided to nerf Aldrachi Warblades. One of the main weaknesses of Demon Hunter is the fact that you have to hit minions often to remove them, so you run out of health pretty quickly. But the Lifesteal of Aldrachi combined with extra damage from Hero Power, Twin Slice and Chaos Strike often negated that disadvantage. DH could easily heal for 20+ in a single game (Warblades + Eye Beam) and it didn’t feel fair.

It’s funny but yesterday i was playing and i felt like i was playtesting demon hunter. It’s hard to believe that with all the money Blizzard have they cant playtest nothing. So dumb and amateur…

So let me get this straight… you think that adding an entirely new class to an 8 year old design that has relied on a 9 class infrastructure is a failure because they have to need a few cards after launch? Amatuer? What are you even babbling about? All the money in the world can’t provide playtesting to compare with millions of active players… many of them professional. Your attitude is misplaced.

Please just shut up, it’s embarrassing – you haven’t got a clue. You could tell the new class was OP after playing against it the first few times. Everyone realised it was OP on day 1 yet Blizzard had months to play test this class.

Don’t comment anymore, your opinion is completely invalid, fool.

And Demon Hunter will be dead and unplayable, not exactly fair, nerfs are always terrible.

So true …. Hearthstone nerfs = trash cards…

You don’t know that. Demon hunter can still remain strong depending on the changes. Right now it is absolutely too strong. The class literally has no weakness. The only decks with greater than 50% winrate are demon hunter…

Finally. Honestly the fact that seven Mana Ragnaros and one Mana 2/2 were not considered too is disheartening because holy fuck even nerfing all that the class would still be tier 1

That’s it, I’m out f this game and it’s crybaby community, we all know this will KILL Demon Hunter, Blizzard sucks at balance.

I don’t believe is a crybaby community, you can look at the numbers at hsreplay. It’s not normal that a brand new class has 55% winrate and the second class being warlok has a 45%, a 10% difference is not a healthy difference even less if you play ladder. I just hope they don’t kill the class as they allways do when nerfing.

I doubt they’ll nerf Demon Hunter too hard. I was just be a really bad for marketing reasons. I think it’s fair that some cards will get changed. 🙂

I just quote myself here: “I guess Blizzard skipped testing again, will they ever learn…” (dec 12 2019 when shaman nerfs were announced)

Any info on the compensation we’re gonna get for playing in their paid beta? Like a founder’s pack ro something?

    • Vavou
      April 8, 2020 at 2:10 pm

      Compensation for what ??
Do you mean that you crafted some of the cards and that you will regret it ?
If that’s so it’s the same as always. They nerf them and if you want to disenchant them will be full dust refund. There is nothing else for them to do. (And btw it’s only been 2/3 days)

        April 8, 2020 at 2:14 pm

One, it’s sarcasm. Two, people craft decks and not cards. I think that’s an important thing to remember when nerfs hit key cards that people may have crafted to play a deck.

            April 8, 2020 at 7:01 pm

My point is that people shouldn’t have crafted cards that synergize with other cards that are likely to get nerfed if they’re worried about dust

    April 8, 2020 at 1:42 pm

Phew. They probably just need to do something about SoG, that card is ridiculous and backbreaking.

    • Rodomonte
      April 8, 2020 at 2:16 pm

Totally agree. The class is a lot of fun so I hope they don’t hit it too hard but it already has so many playable draw cards. Reducing cost on top is too much tempo, and you can play 2 copies!

      • Beerdserkr
        April 8, 2020 at 2:27 pm

Oh you and I both know Demon Hunter is dead.

      • Electronick
        April 8, 2020 at 3:05 pm

Yep. It’s a really fun class and if they dial it down it could be a really skilful one.

Right now their tempo is so obscene they can make really sub-optimal plays in the mid game and still end up well ahead. Mainly because you have to feed your minions to Antean or you risk leaving lethal damage with 15+ hp.
