Deck Import

This Tempo Mage deck helped lock in a top 20 finish for Hotform on the season 17 Legend ladder. You’ll notice very quickly that the deck contains only one TGT card. Nexus-Champion Saraad stands alone, and provides a card that demands removal and can get value if left on the board. Effigy was a popular inclusion previously, but I personally found that it worked terribly with cards like Mirror Image or Mana Wyrm. Mirror Entity is far more likely to get a quality minion, especially when you play against something like Druid or Midrange Hunter that tries to play on curve.

If you don’t have Nexus-Champion Saraad you can try Loatheb or Sylvanas Windrunner in that spot. Hotform wrote a guide on the deck which you can read here.

Can I swap the Mad scientist as there is only one secret in this build or do you believe it necessary

It’s necessary, it gives insane value if you get the secret from the Mad Scientist.

If you guys want a detailed guide, Hotform posted it on reddit:

Interestingly, I tracked my Saarad stats, and out of 23 activations, I got Twisting Nether 15 times. Lost only one of those games.

    Pretty fun deck to play.

Thanks for sharing this deck which is excellent so far !
I’ve been using it for couple of games and the result is a 10-0 streak !
    I don’t have Nexus-Champion Saraad, Dr.BOOM and Archmage Antonidas..

    I have trade :
    – Dr.BOOM for Loatheb
    – Archmage Antonidas for Effigy (which is pretty disappointing)
    – Nexus-Champion Saraad for Fallen Hero

If you have better idea, I’ll take it !

I think Boom and Saraad can be substituted, but Archmage is pretty mandatory if you want to really excel with the deck. The card itself is a win-condition and it’s effect is so unique it is very hard to replace.

      Loatheb or Sylvanas Windrunner.

      I would do Rhonin personally

You can try Sylvanas if you are facing mostly Priest (which is unlikely), otherwise I think any of these would do fine:

Loatheb: a bit more aggressive than most options
Toshley: better vs midrange like druid, good synergy with Antonidas and Waker
Rhonin: better vs control, has good synergy with the deck tho a bit too slow
Rag: faster than Rhonin but doesn’t share any synergy with the rest of the deck, strong topdeck

Just my opinion, I’m not an expert on tempo mage.

Loatheb seems the sensible option, he’s particularly good at stopping combos like FoN+Savage Roar.

    Hello Hotform,

I just have a few questions to ask about your decklist. What if I don’t have Archmage Antonidas, what is the best sub for that card? I am excited to play Tempo Mage Deck and looking forward to hear more from you and your opinion based on this situation. Best luck to you!

This is Hotform’s deck, but he didn’t post it. You’ll have to talk to him on twitter or on his twitch stream.
