You Can Get An Extra Battle.net Tag Change For Free Until November 5

With the recent decision to change McCree’s name in Overwatch (because the character’s name was based on one of the notable employees and – as it happened – key figure in the harassment lawsuit), Blizzard is now offering extra free name changes to everyone. It applies to people who already have used their free name change in the past – remember that each account can change their Battle Tag for free once, if that’s still available to you then you don’t need to worry about this one.

You can request an extra name change token through this form, and it will take up to four weeks to process it. After that, your free name change will “refresh” and you will be able to do it once more through the account options.

Applications can be sent until November 5, 2021, but there’s no expiration date on name change tokens – you can request it now, but use it a few years down the road. While those do not stack (hence why you don’t need to worry about if you still have one), if you wish to do so, you can change your name now and then requests another token for the future.

As we introduce a new name, you might have the desire to do the same. Starting 22 October, 2021 and continuing through 5 November, 2021, all players will be offered a free BattleTag name change. This applies to anyone who does not currently have a free name change available. Existing name changes will not stack for future use.

Players can request a name change through this form. You will receive a notification once your request has been processed. Please allow up to four weeks for processing.

Thanks and we’ll see you in game!
