The Spirit of Competition – Hearthstone 6th Birthday Event Has Begun – Free Packs + Card Back

It’s been six years since Hearthstone has officially launched. Well, to be more precise it will be a week from now – the game was released on March 11, 2014. A celebratory event has just begun with lots of freebies!

Log into the game between today (March 4) and March 17 to get six card packs (2x Rise of Shadows, 2x Saviors of Uldum and 2x Descent of Dragons), as well as a Year of the Dragon card back for free.

A new chain of Legendary Quests has also started. Three of them were announced, although we’ve previously datamined six active ones, so it might mean that we’ll get to see more next week (but we aren’t certain). Still, the three Quests announced will award five extra packs – 2x Rise of Shadows, 2x Saviors of Uldum and 1x Descent of Dragons.

Remember to keep Quest slots open around 10 am PT, because that’s when we’ll get new Legendary Quests. If you don’t have an open slot, one of your current regular Quests will get replaced.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been six years since first we opened the Tavern! The astonishing love and support you’ve shown us over the years would bring a tear to even Deathwing’s eye. It’s time to celebrate all the victories we’ve shared alongside you and to bid a fond farewell to the Year of the Dragon, so we’ve put together a special anniversary event we’re calling the Spirit of Competition!

QuestReward_Wk_2_760x600.png

We’re bringing back a rekindled version of the Burndown Brawl! Players will take control of a random deck. The loser of each brawl will be given their opponent’s deck for the next one. One deck will emerge as the most dominant—how long can your deck survive THE BURNDOWN!?

Hall of Champions Brawl

We’re also bringing back an updated version of the Hall of Champions Brawl! Play the winning decks from World Championships past in their original (pre-balance update) form, now including those piloted by our most recent victors—Xiaomeng ‘Liooon’ Li and Casper ‘Hunterace’ Notto.

In the end, we’re only getting 11 packs, not 16 as was datamined.

I actually really like the Hall of Champions brawl. I wish there was a game mode where you could play any cards just like in wild but they are all un-nerfed, and your deck could only include something that was in standard a the time. Would be cool to see how all the decks stack up

I don’t know that I’d want it as a full-time game mode, but I would DEFINITELY like to see this brawl occur more often. Infinitely better than the “Randy McRandomness” and “Make a broken deck out of expensive wild cards” brawls we’ve been getting lately.

Not sure if you play Overwatch, but it has an arcade mode with like 10 different game modes that change how you play (4v4, capture the flag, random heroes, etc). Some of these also change daily, making the experience new every time.

I really wish Hearthstone had something like this, where you could play popular/unique tavern brawls for free at any time

          I don’t play Overwatch.
How long are the queues for the less popular modes in that game? That would be my biggest concern. Right now queues for every game mode are usually < 1 minute for every game mode, but if they start adding too many unique game modes I could see this shoot up.

I don’t play them all, but for the ones i do play it’s pretty brisk. Usually quicker than the normal quick play
