Deck Import

Laughing is a highly regarded Freeze Mage player, and he apparently tried a lot of different stuff, but ended up with a pretty normal list. The deck contains no cards from Whispers of the Old Gods, and goes with the four secret package and cuts Archmage Antonidas from the list.

I added cult sorcerer instead of bloodmage (coz i dont have it) and I added an acidic swamp ooze instead of a novice engineer. This choice helps a lot against doomhammer and pirate warrior’s weapons.

Can I put Yog somewhere in this deck?

Maybe cut a Loot Hoarder, but I wouldn’t do that.

For anyone who wants to see this deck played in standard. Thijs was just streaming today with a similar list. He gives some good pointers as to how to tackle the current meta and what to do when facing cancer decks like shaman. You can find the VOD on his twitch profile. It sounds like im advertising him 😀 but frankly its the only proper freeze mage VOD out there for standard format.

Hmm.. i really want to include and try Archmage Antonidas in there.. could you tell me an opportunity to include him for a card of these?
It was a quite difficult, which card i could replace for him.

Thijs said on his stream today that Antonidas is too slow in the current meta. Its only good against heavy control matchups like warrior. If you really want to i`d replace pyro or a torch.

Maybe you could play Archmage Antonidas instead, but this is a lot of damage to lose. You could also just try a second Acolyte of Pain.

This deck is extremely weak in ladder because it has more bad match ups then good ones.
The loss of Healbot and Mad Scientist makes you “breakfast meal” for any aggro deck like Face Shaman or Hunter and with this list it’s literally impossible to win against any Warrior.
So don’t play this on ladder if you’re concern about climbing because most likely you won’t.

that would be a good idea to create a card that have “your hero power now freezes target enemy” just like shadow priest.

People aren’t playing this deck because it’s too slow i think.

Dude, I’m pretty sure Freeze Mage decks are supposed to be slow. And no, lots of people are playing this deck.

I played Laughing on ladder in legend rank twice during past season (unlucky i guess) super strong against anything that isnt extremely aggressive or a midrange with a strong opening or barring really bad draws from the mage. It is pretty much just as strong as it has always been, possibly just a little worse just because of no Mad Scientist. But the meta will define (as always) will determine how good freeze mage is.

What are good replacements for thalnos and alexstrasza?

Second Acolyte for Thalnos, I don’t think you can replace Alexstrasza in this deck. You might be able to use an Archmage Antonidas, but I don’t know if the deck still works.

Hey Evident! Did you get your hands on any VODs of people playing post-standard Freeze Mage? I need some pointers as to how to play in the new meta.

I honestly haven’t seen any videos or streams playing Freeze Mage yet unfortunately!

Same here. I`ve been searching quite a lot as well. I was hoping you would have a magic trick up your sleeve. The deck is still extremely powerful and does seem to stop the aggro shaman cancer but with the lack of mad scientist it seems the skillcap increased a lot. I still cant decide whether barrier saves you more hp or CoC.

What would be a good replacement for Forgotten Torch?

I’m not sure you can replace that card, it’s going to be one of the main ways you output damage… You could maybe do a second Acolyte of Pain and a Cone of Cold.

The torches are your reach when the opponent can go above 30 hp or has healing abilities. I would probably sub it with archmage antonidas if you have it. And either a 2nd acolyte or a cone of cold depending whether you need cycle or board control more.
