China Gets a Hearthstone Companion App – Game Replays, Deck Tracker & Recommendation Tools

It looks like Hearthstone China has gotten another awesome addition to their game, and this time in the way of an Official Companion App. Czhihong on Reddit (be sure to follow him on Twitter!) has compiled a bunch of information, so big shout out to him. I’ve summarized the information and collected some of the screenshots below.

  • Usable on PC Only.
  • Only works on the China server currently.
  • Automatically records your recent matches up to 200.
  • Replay functionality including pausing and skipping to specific turns.
  • Deck tracker and recommendation tool which informs you of how many cards and how much dust you are missing.
  • No word on if this is coming to other regions anytime soon!

1. One-click deck recommendation tool, know how much dust you’re missing right away

Once you enter the app from the main menu, you can browse through all the interesting and cool decks for all classes using the deck recommendation tool. The tool will immediately inform you whether you have the cards for the decks, and if not, how much dust you’re missing.

Once you pick a deck you like, you can immediately click to create the deck in your collection. No more scurrying around looking for deck codes!

2. Capture every second of your insane games

Did you just come back from one health and are bursting to share with someone? The official companion app automatically records every game you play and stores it on the cloud, ensuring that every single exciting moment is not missed.

You will be able to replay the games in spectator mode to view at your own time, any time. You can also share and favourite your replays. With this app, everyone can create their own Trolden videos!

3. Real-time card tracker to optimise your strategy

Every Hearthstone game is different, your opponents play different decks every game. Know thy self, know thy enemy, a thousand battles, a thousand victories. The app will help you record all cards your opponent has played, exact cards remaining in your deck, provide aides for secret guessing, and much more.

Note: The app is currently in beta, we seek your patience and understanding if you encounter bugs. Please submit your feedback and bug reports to the official forums.

    1) This is a beta, so obviously we’ll see it expand in deployment if it works.
    2) I wonder what this does to HearthstoneTracker, HSReplay, and other such apps. (Will it conflict if you have multiple running?)
    3) If it does conflict, does this mean third party data collectors are going to get screwed from being able collect their data sets, if most people use the “official one” and stop using the others?
    4) This bums me out, as sites like this and Vicious Syndicate (these are my two favorite HS sites) might suffer from this… or am I missing something?

I do like that it becomes an official part of the game, which means it is easier for the average person to get the data they need just to have an even playing field on ladder. I’m pretty casual, but it changed my play to be able to track what has been drawn/played over the course of a game… see which decks I tend to do well with (I personally loved NeutralStone, as tempo decks like that are my thing)… etc. Making that a well built, integral part of the game, instead of a third party, always glitching, app… I do like that.

Note to Blizzard the developer would have the option of language. I tried to try but I do not understand the language of that developer.

Sometimes I wonder who’s responsible for that top level marketing over there at that small indy company.

Sure, the tool could be amazing. But released only im China? Only for PC? Without any ‘official’ announcement? That is very unprofessional.

Same with the Year of the Raven stream … sure it’s okay to cancel it due to technical problems. But cancelling it without a new date? Am I the only one who’s checking the internet daily for any goddamn news regarding the new Hearthstone year?

And what do we get instead? Arena changes coming, yeah! But wait … WHEN will those changes happen? Hmm …

There is an official page for the app, of course in Chinese.

This tracking App was not made by Blizzard, it was made by a company/site called NetEase.

The Chinese’ strict internet laws mean that NetEase has to handle the distribution of Hearthstone content in China. NetEase has done it with Blizzard’s permission, but that’s all. Blizzard had zero involvement in the creation of this app. It was NetEase’s idea to make this app in the first place.

That’s why you’ve not heard about this app- NetEase caters only to players in China, because only they need this additional layer. The rest of the world communicates with Blizzard directly.

And I suspect the app is China exclusive because NetEase has no rights to distribute this app outside of China- if the rest of the world wants the app, it’s Blizzard’s job! (It’s like you’re complaining that the 7-11 in Uganda started selling oysters. Why would they care about you? You’re in another part of the world, go ask your local 7-11!)
