Celebrating Lunar New Year in Hearthstone – Tavern Brawl & 8 Special Quests – January 29

Lunar New Year is coming back to Hearthstone! It will run through January 29 to February 12, so for two whole weeks.

It will open with a new, quite interesting Tavern Brawl, where each class will get assigned three animals from Chinese zodiac (there are 12 in total, so they will repeat for some classes). Each one of them has an unique effect, such as making your spells cost (1) less, adding Coins to your hand or giving +3 Health to every minion you summon. The decks, however, will be random – which is a good thing and a bad thing. On the one hand, you won’t have to bother with deck building and people won’t quickly discover some overpowered combos, but on the other hand, those overpowered combos are a cool thing about Tavern Brawls.

Besides Brawl, we’ll also get a series of eight special Quests, each rewarding players with a mix of Gold & Arcane Dust. While we don’t know what are those Quests exactly, it’s quite safe to assume that we’ll get the same ones we had last year (or at least very similar ones). Here’s a list of Quests from last year:

  • Looking Forward – Take 15 turns. (60 Gold + 60 Dust)
  • Honor One’s Elders – Take 25 turns. (100 Gold + 100 Dust)
  • First of the Year – Play 5 minions that cost 1. (60 Gold + 60 Dust)
  • Good Fortune – Draw 15 cards. (60 Gold + 60 Dust)
  • New Year’s Blessings – Draw 25 cards. (100 Gold + 100 Dust)
  • A Magical Year – Play 20 spells. (60 Gold + 60 Dust)
  • Magical Revelries – Play 35 spells. (100 Gold + 100 Dust)
  • Dragon-Fireworks! – Play 3 Dragons (80 Gold + 80 Dust)

The total rewards between those eight Quests are 620 Gold + 620 Dust. We should be able to get one Quest per day (but since the event will go for 2 weeks, you will be able to miss a few days without missing any Quests). Keep in mind that those might be Legendary Quests – extra Quests gained on top of your regular Daily Quests! It means that you want to keep your Quest slots open, or else they will replace one of your Daily Quests (assuming they’re Legendary).

Each class also has the choice between three different Blessings: buffs that will carry into your game and give you an advantage. LOL, okay, so I need a better formula to maximize the gold and dust gain.
if its legendary quest, then I just save up 1 slot.
and If it’s regular quests, then i need to save up to 2 quests, and 1 slot for the special quest, then rolled up the old quest so that quest can get dust too. (minimum gold is 60, so i can safely roll the 60 quest up).

a bit nerd, but I do wish for max money+dust gain for the next rotation. And since I’ve lost nearly half my collections to create Shaman (which is bad move). This is a comeback.

Even if it’s normal Quest, I’m not sure if rolling will really change that. If there are eight of them in total, it might mean that if you finish all of them you will get regular Quests until the event is over.

But I hope that we’ll learn more about them before the event starts.

    wait, I still don’t get the L.quests.
that means, there are 8 quests chain, but 4 days of them will go without quest?
since there are 12 days of festival?

8 quests, 6 days without quest, total 14 days?

Quests aren’t tied to each day. E.g. you can finish Quest 1 on Day 1, then skip Day 2 and on Day 3 you will still have Quest 2. Then you will be one day “behind” and you will get everything done on Day 9. Skip 2 days and you will be done on Day 10. Not sure how to explain it better…

It means that if you skip a few days because you won’t be able to play the game etc. you will still be able to get all Quests done.

          ah. that’s a better explanation.
because the 1st time I heard about this, I thought it was just a regular quest with dust that you can roll everyday (to get a better value) like in the past.
But this is good too. Because we’re getting more quest per day.

          thanks.

Wait, actually, now that I think about it I’m not sure how they will do it. They didn’t mention Legendary Quests in the update info. And I honestly don’t remember how they did it a year ago.

Sorry about the confusion, I guess that we’ll just have to wait until next week and see.

Nice! More gold to save up for the adventures.
