Blizzard Plans To Bring Back In-Person BlizzCon Event in 2023

It’s been a while since the last BlizzCon. While we had a smaller, online event early in 2021, the last “real”, in-person event happened back in 2019. COVID-19 pandemic is to blame, of course, but people still hoped for it to be back this year (before it was officially canceled a few months ago).

However, it looks like the situation might change soon. Mike Ybarra, president of Blizzard Entertainment, was interviewed by Los Angeles Times. During the interview, he made a commitment to bringing back live event in 2023, after they hired a new BlizzCon leader.

Have you ever attended BlizzCon? Are you happy that it will (probably) be back next year? Or maybe you don’t think that the event will ever go back to its glory days and they should just drop it?

We previously announced we’re taking a pause on BlizzCon while we reimagine it for the future but do want to return to a live event that enables us to celebrate the community,” Ybarra says.” We recently hired a new leader of BlizzCon, April McKee, who is hard at work on that plan. … We are committed to bringing back BlizzCon in 2023.
