If you like the Hearthstone Battlegrounds game mode and want to watch the highest level of competition, you should definitely tune into this weekend’s Battlegrounds Lobby Legends: Winter Veil. It’s the ninth and final Lobby Legends tournament this year (new ones happen every month or so on average, so we expect the next one around January).
Unlike the old Battlegrounds tournaments, this one is NOT invitational – players got qualified based on merit (first their ladder finishers – top 16 from each region – and then an extra qualifier to select the final four). It should make things very interesting, as those are all top ranked players.
While we had some Battlegrounds changes in Patch 25.0, the meta should look roughly similar to the previous one – not that it’s a bad thing, but don’t expect any bigger meta shifts until Patch 25.2 launches with a big BG update (we don’t know yet what that update will be, but X.2 patches are always focusing on this game mode). The new “Tavern Buddy” system was also added recently, allowing players to participate by making predictions, answering questions, and getting points based on how correct they are.
The event will be streamed on both Twitch and YouTube, starting at 3 PM PT (midnight CET) on December 2 (December 3 for CET). Sadly, the event doesn’t offer drops of any kind, you won’t get any packs for watching it.

THE PUZZLE BOX
Viewers answer a series of yes/no or over/under questions at the start of every broadcast, such as “Will one player get 1st place more than once?” Points are earned for each correct answer.
Before the start of each Group, viewers choose 3 players they believe will perform the best out of the 8. Viewers earn points based on their game results.
Viewers pick a player during the first few turns of each game. Points are earned based on that player’s finish. The earlier they choose, the more possible points.
Once during each game, the broadcast will focus on a single matchup and viewers will be asked to predict the winner of that turn.
How It Works
Day 1: All 16 players are divided into two separate lobbies, with each lobby completing three matches on Day 1. Following each match, players will be awarded points based on finish, with 7 points going to 1st place, 6 for 2nd, decreasing to 0 for 8th place. At the end of the matches, the top four players from each lobby based on total points earned will advance to the Top 8.
Day 2: The Top 8 will compete in an ongoing Check format until a winner is crowned. Points will be earned each match the same as Day 1, but to win someone has to earn a minimum of 20 points and then secure a 1st place match victory. Only with both conditions met will a player be able to walk away from the ninth Battlegrounds: Lobby Legends with the championship and $20,000 in prizing.
