(Brawl & Community Days Live) Across the Timeways Community Events

Update: Patch 34.0 is now out, and with it the Pre-Release Brawl. While it’s hard to copy new decks 1:1 because you can’t craft Across the Timeways cards, we’ll be sharing successful Brawl decks whole week (both the ones that use new cards and those that don’t), so hopefully you’ll find something you like. Community Days are also live – get up to 10 card packs from Twitch drop by watching ANY Hearthstone stream during the event period (October 28 – November 1).

Across the Timeways is the next Hearthstone expansion releasing on November 4. And as usual, the road ahead has a bunch of interesting events and updates.

Here’s a quick summary of everything happening over the next few weeks:

  • Theorycrafting Streams (October 23-24) – As usual, content creators from around the world will be invited to test the expansion early. Each deck will need to run at least 10 new expansion cards. You can watch the event on participating players’ streams, or through a “Theorycasting” stream on the official PlayHearthstone Twitch channel. Drops will be active starting at 9 AM PT (18:00 CET) on October 23. Get two Across the Timeways packs for watching.
  • Community Days (October 28 – November 1) – Community days return with lots of free card packs. Drops will be active across the whole Hearthstone category for four days – get up to 10 card packs (including 4 Across the Timeways packs) for watching.
  • Pre-Release Brawl (October 28 – November 4) – Pre-Release Brawl is back for yet another expansion. Open your Across the Timeways packs early and compete in a unique format. Use cards from Core & Event Sets, The Lost City of Un’Goro as well as the new Across the Timeways expansion to build your decks. Dive the Golakka Depths will be banned from the format. All players will get one entry for free, further entries will cost 2 Tavern Tickets, 300 Gold or 400 Runestones.
  • Rewind Update – While not an event itself, Blizzard has recognized that current Rewind is working too slowly. They’ve made it feel a little bit snappier in this update, and they will keep working to improve it in the future. However, they are also addressing the biggest elephant in the room – Mister Clocksworth. With up to 3 Rewinds back to back, the card took awful long time to resolve. That’s why the patch will remove one Rewind from his card effect (in other words, you’ll only be able to Rewind him twice now). I’m gonna be honest – I can understand this change, but it feels really silly that they did not buff some other aspect of the card in return. It’s already barely playable in its current state. Unless that’s their goal – if no one plays it, then the animation time is not a problem.

Rewind Update

Dev Comment: Time goes by; so slowly… and sometimes, a little too slowly! With the Across the Timeways Pre-Release Tavern Brawl giving everyone a chance to jump into the timestream and explore the new set, we’re making some changes to help improve the experience. We’ve heard your feedback about the Rewind effect feeling longer than expected and occasionally frustrating, especially when multiple Rewinds are used in a single turn. To help address those concerns, the 34.0 patch includes a few updates to Rewind, and given that Mister Clocksworth in particular can use Rewind three times in a row, we’re winding him down as well.

From the very beginning, it was clear that Rewind would be one of the most technically ambitious keywords we’ve ever developed, but we believed the excitement of bringing time travel to Hearthstone would be well worth it. We love creating the feeling that you have the power to bend time itself with Rewind, chasing a better outcome through a blend of fantasy and strategy.

When Rewind is activated, a sand veil covers the screen not just for visual effect, but to allow the entire game state to reload, which naturally takes a bit of time. Our first mockup of Rewind lasted a whopping 12 seconds(!), and through development we discovered efficiencies that helped us trim it down to the version you see today. The updates to Rewind in this patch should make the effect feel a little snappier. We’re continuing to explore further improvements to the Rewind effect, and if they prove successful, we plan to roll them out later in this patch cycle.

In the meantime, we’re making a small adjustment by removing one Rewind from Mister Clocksworth. While this will slightly lower his power level, we believe it will lead to a smoother and more enjoyable experience for everyone. Thank you for your continued patience and support as we work to make Rewind the best it can be. Until next time!
