Guys, just look at all cards closely, look how many downside minions we have by evolving, most of the time it’s going to be bad

Bad news is that the hero ability doesn’t do anything on an empty board. Good news is that regular Shaman ability isn’t great even on an empty board, so the bar is pretty low.

I was thinking that this card was underwhelming, but to be honest, Token Shaman will almost certainly run it, especially because it can combo with Dopplegangster if you make it to turn 10. That probably makes this card just automatically good. Though it is worth noting that 4 more mana on Evolve for 1 more cost when evolving probably isn’t worth it. Also worth noting is that at the end of the day, this is a very random card that can literally blow up in your face (Hello Bomb Squad!).

This is two evolves in one card plus 5 health, you won’t be playing this for the hero power.

Wow, that’s so impressive. So you’re telling me that this 5 mana card is worth less than 3 mana since we don’t care about the hero power now, right?

Evolve isn’t even the primary win condition in Token Shaman. It just wants to flood the board and play Bloodlust. Evolve is just a nice bonus, and it mostly works because it’s cheap, allowing you to play a lot of things and still evolve them in the same turn. This card with its chunky 5 mana makes it a lot harder to combo with more cards. So on further thought, no, I don’t think even Token Shaman will run this thing. Thanks for clearing that up.

Evolve Shaman works because of shaman’s hero power, you can easily evoque minion after minion.
With this Hero you just lose the ability to get a full board. i’m skeptical about this card.

Will evolving into Steamwheedle Sniper allow you to evolve enemy minions?

Exactly what he wrote. If you evolve a minion into steamwheedle sniper…can you then evolve enemy minions. I think yes which in some cases against shaman maybe it can be a good thing, like a silence almost

It’s possible, but the rag hero power never worked with the sniper.

It has to be the best hero so far. Could see play in token decks because the effect is not that much worse than bloodlust (although it is slower) and token decks really need these threatening cards to force control in to using removal inefficiently. The hero power is also reasonable, if only because it can be used on a damaged minion. The hero power is probably stronger than priests normal hero power, and priests hero power would be good in classes that can actually take board. The 5 armor is probably not going to be that relevant, but it will help every once in a while.

It’s a strong card but why did they make at least 4 cards that have to do with freeze and the Herocard is about evolve. Makes no sense to me.

      August 1, 2017 at 1:04 am

Since this year the development team is releasing two class legendaries with each expansion, as well as generally including more cards, they seem to be using this as a chance to focus on encouraging multiple deck archetypes. Remember most Un’Goro class legendaries and quests often had nothing to do with each other.

      • Kenchilada
        August 1, 2017 at 6:35 am

Yeah, having the requirement of owning both legendaries to play an archetype that might not even be good isn’t very good… at least, it wouldn’t allow f2ps to have as much fun as they did in this aggro meta. Maybe next aggro meta will have more legendaries than Patches.

Well it helps you to get mage minions that have freezing effects, 😀
And the minions you can get might have a high cost since it has a nice battlecry effect, but low stats, so you may want to evolve them after you got your copys with Moorabi.

your right, i guess we are looking for a happy medium. but lets be honest… this card is really good but super unreliable… not knowing what your going to get makes this card terrible for the game. what would have been so bad with an effect that freezes stuff? or deals damage… or brings creatures back… or even beefs them all up fora turn or 2… there are so many ways this could of went and less RNG could be inserted into the game. now we have to deal with our opponent getting 7, 8, 9, and 10 drops for 5 mana… or say you play a whole had of wisps or 1 drops and then your opponent plays that and ends up with a field of 2/3s and 3/2s… next turn 1 of them gets a bump and becomes a 5/6 creature with some stupid ass effect. when you lose to this effect youll feel robbed.. when you win with this effect you shouldnt feel satisfied since your skill level had nothing do to do with your win.

I love hearthstone… i love it so much…. but man this shit ruins the game.

    July 31, 2017 at 8:25 pm

I honestly think if this card costed 3 mana and the hero power costed 0 the card would not be broken. The deck would barely make tier 1 but prob would be tier 2.

    • Roberto
      August 1, 2017 at 12:47 am

      OMG, are u CRAZY?!

3 mana for double evolve and 5 armour would be broken, since u could combo it with a lot more stuff a lot earlier. And the 0 cost hero power???? broken AS HELL.
I think you don’t really have HS installed on your pc/mobile. U probably just entered the wrong internet page……

  9. HearstoneGuy
    July 31, 2017 at 8:01 pm

Wait does that mean that if you play it on a board with 10 cost minions they can become 12 cost golems ? Does anybody know ???

    • Matt
      July 31, 2017 at 8:29 pm

Minions that cost 10 cannot evolve, they will remain the same. Same goes for minions that cost 0 cannot be devolved

      • HearstoneGuy
        July 31, 2017 at 8:52 pm

But wasn’t the only reason 10 cost cant evolve because there were not any 11 costs ?

        • User27
          August 1, 2017 at 2:35 pm

Yes. It makes sense that this would always turn 10 costs into an arcane/mountain/clockwork giant. The real question is what would happen to 9 drops? I am not sure if they would be evolved once to a 10 drop or remain unchanged.

  10. Brann
    July 31, 2017 at 7:17 pm

This hero card actually isn’t that good

    Evolve is worth (1) manna so @ (2) we’ll say it’s worth 3

    5 armor is worth 1

So you get 4 manna worth of stuff and 1 for the new hero power

So you’re paying 1 manna to change your hero power to get a 2 manna evolve 1 minion by (1)

So your paying 2x as much manna to evolve 1 minion compared to the card evolve that does everything for 1 Mana

And totem is a pretty valuable hero power in evolve shaman for filling the board

I don’t think this card will work in any shaman deck but could work if shamans get some more cards like doppleganger where the +(1) evolves will generate a ton of value

But to be honest I think a +(1) evolve is about the same value as a totem (maybe less)

    • Brann
      July 31, 2017 at 7:33 pm

I think this hero power would have been alot stronger, cooler and more versatile if it let you pick your enemies minions to evolve by (1) as well

So you could use this if you needed a minion Changed but @ a risk

Would also be a nice check to death rattles decks

But as is, I think shamans normal hero power is just as good maybe better

Turn 10 just drop doppel and hero. 3 7mana minions + random cards….

  12. Dylan Fox On TopDeck
    July 31, 2017 at 7:15 pm

This card is very cool but probably not useful enough. For 5 if you have a large board as token shaman you’re better off bloodlusting rather than playing this card. The only reason evolve is even seeing play is for the doppelgangster evolve combo for 6. So evolving twice for 5 mana just isn’t worth it.

  13. Xix
    July 31, 2017 at 7:01 pm

The problem with this card is, that you lose the totems to evolve. An evolve shammy is really good at filling his board fast with alot of crap, and than evolve it. After you play this, it’s gonna be harder to get alot of crap on the board.
Allso evolving single target minions is not about playing a card evolve it and hope your lucky, it’s about trading your minions have it survive than evolve it to get it to full health again, and if possible a better minion.

Though looks like freeze shammy is gonna be a less of a thing, and it’s all evolve shammy now. XD

Dear blizzard, i love hearthstone as a game. I agree with 95% of your choices… but… this card is gonna fall in the 5% that i feel was a negative production. For 1, can yall stay away from RNG type effects? This hero could of been so much better with a freezing effect or even a damage effect. The more cards that do random stuff the jankier the games get. Like for example, why did yall make the preist card that copies decks? That card will not be competitive at all… it will only be used in some gay fashion to make the game less enjoyable. I hope there are some better choices for the other hero cards 🙁

    • Rusty
      July 31, 2017 at 5:30 pm

I agree with you there, too many random effects take away skills from the game. Plus losing against this will feel completely random and so will winning with it. I don’t think this card will be healthy for the meta

      • Whiplash
        July 31, 2017 at 5:47 pm

Hearthstone has always had a much bigger random element than most other card games I’ve played. This is nothing new. I can’t count the times I’ve won or lost to RNG. My Ragnaros hit the hero for lethal sometimes, and sometimes it hit their only minion and got sheeped and I lost.
If you want strategy, play Chess (at least you get all the pieces free!).

        • Rusty
          July 31, 2017 at 6:25 pm

Ha ha yeah true! But at least with Rag you can “aim” him by taking down minions, due to the high cost you had to prepare for the turn you played him. I feel this will be a great play on any turn where you have 3 minions in board. Much less “skill” than Rag.

          • Kevin Davis
            August 1, 2017 at 6:29 am

this game has so much potential though…. all they have to do is stop making so many RNG type effects. the discovery effect aint so bad… but ive been fucked by that as well due to shitty choices. Things like the Rogue quest makes the game so much less fun and less competitive. if they had more cards that interacted with your opponent on their turn it wouldnt have been so bad, but relying on a dirty rat to save you from a rogue quest just isnt enough… like i said, 95% of the games design is GREAT… love this game so much… but every format there is at least 1 aspect that just ruins it for me. i am a personal lover of the shaman class myself. i was really hoping for freeze effects with this guy. Im not saying the card is gonna be bad, but its just so random… id be scared to play it since you cant control what you get. looks like ill be using mage this next format

  16. Unknown
    July 31, 2017 at 2:53 pm

Why has this card been rated so high??? With a board you want to play bloodlust. Also, evolving for (2) instead of (1) isn’t even that much better, especially for 4 more mana. However, the hero power is good, but not enough to save this card.

    • Matt
      July 31, 2017 at 2:58 pm

Because minions have to untap for bloodlust. Doppel evolve makes minions survive the turn for bloodlust.

    • Fabian wogatzke
      July 31, 2017 at 3:17 pm

      I posted this several times:

      Not everyone plays aggro/midrange.
U can play this in an midrange/control elemental deck and evolve ur low cost elementals to have a low cost high impact board for exaample.

Play jade shaman , control with ur board and evolve ur low live jades.

      several possibilitys.

While going back to aggro ; U can only hold 2 bloodlust in every deck, while i dont think any aggro deck runs 2 bloodlusts, get this card in for an additional 5 drop that WOULD help u if u ever cant lethal turn 5/6. ( which is stupid btw i hate aggro meta won’t lie here)

      • STEWBACCA
        July 31, 2017 at 4:11 pm

For all the “Bloodlust is better on turn 5 comments…” You don’t play bloodlust on Turn 5. it’s not an aggro deck. You hold bloodlust for lethal, or to bust through a giant taunt. I’ve never seen token Shaman win on turn 5 bloodlust, and I’ve played the deck exclusively this season (maybe 200 matches.)

        • Fabian wogatzke
          July 31, 2017 at 5:13 pm

Is it because u have lethal turn 4 :DDDDDDDD ?

PS : No hate, just a joke.

However , bloodlust drawing on turn 5 when u have those cheap elemental + the murloc totem etc is lethal in some cases.

      July 31, 2017 at 3:21 pm

As others have pointed out, this is a control card, not aggro. And a pretty good one too. All of the new heroes so far have been control orientated in fact – I suspect all will be.

    • Alt3r
      July 31, 2017 at 3:53 pm

One of the bigger problems with evolve shaman as an archetype is that you can only run 2 Evolve and 2 Master of Evolution. This not only gives you a Evolution hero power, it has x2 Evolve on top of it. As it stands I see Evolve shaman being more viable if things pan out to a “Control Meta” from how blizzard is building this set

  17. Pindead
    July 31, 2017 at 2:48 pm

If you have many minions on board , bloodlust is a better 5 drop. Will not be played

    • Unbekunt
      July 31, 2017 at 3:20 pm

If u have less minions on board, who traited into taunt etc. this is a better 5 drop then bloodlust , will see play.

U get that ur argumentation is kinda spongy.

Kinda same like saying “legendary [x] for 5 mana is better then common [y] for 5 mana so the common won’t see play….

    • Brann
      July 31, 2017 at 4:53 pm

You know you don’t have to take bloodlust out of your deck to play this card right?

Maybe idk take out 1 Thing from below? or maybe a 1 drop? or any other fking card

Ya bloodlust is prob a better turn 5 with a full board, but that doesn’t mean this will be bad and see no play because of that

You could run 2 bloodlusts AND this card in an evolve deck easily,
but I guess just because they are both 5 manna, this card must be shit right?

      Makes logical sense

Idk? maybe you could play this on a new board? and evolve those minions, like with Doppler ganger?

You’re prob one of the rank 25 players who thought Hunter quest was broken

Overall solid hero card, (prob a staple in Shaman) will see a lot of play in evolve shaman and I bet a ton of other lists

      • Pindead
        July 31, 2017 at 4:59 pm

can’t take out any card for this. Evolve shaman is an aggro deck with a strong turn 6 combo. evolve is way stronger than this card.
