do we have any knowledge of whether Knuckles must survive the attack to trigger its effect?
He doesn’t have to survive to hit face

No, the hp damage from trample is (attack – blocking creature’s health)

Not quite trample since it isn’t excess damage but along those lines yea.
Trample only dealt left over damage to Hero, This is full damage
Trample would only be the difference of the attacking minions attack from the defending minions health instead this goes full smorc for full damage
