This week’s Tavern Brawl is “Shadow Reflection”!

Discuss this Tavern Brawl on our Discord!

Official Description for Shadow Reflection

Build a deck of any size, and we’ll fill the rest of the 30 cards with Shadow Reflections that copy the last card you play!

Shadow Reflection Chalkboard

General Information

  • Earn a Standard card pack for your first win in this Brawl.
  • It’s the third time we see this Brawl. Last time we’ve seen it on June 20, 2018.
  • It’s a PvP Brawl.
  • Brawl’s format is Standard.
  • It’s a Constructed Brawl. Pick a class and build a deck.
  • You can put up to 30 cards into your deck, but you don’t have to fill all 30 slots. The slots you don’t fill will be filled with Shadow Reflections (originally from Valeera the Hollow‘s Hero Power).
  • Shadow Reflection simply becomes a copy of the last card you played. Any card type – it can become a minion, spell, weapon, Hero Card or a location.
  • You can either try to build some combos around it, or simply build a strong Standard deck with a few slots missing so you can double up on your strongest cards.
  • Frankly, you can even try simply playing a full 30 cards Standard deck and it should still work fine in this format.

Automaton Priest is definitely the way to go. Just cut all the worst cards from the deck and keep the top 18 and get even more automatons!

I’ve also seen warlock decks playing 7 8/8 taunts by turn 4 or 5. That’s pretty nuts as well. Lost to that twice but I think it’s much less consistent.

which 8/8 card did they copy?

thumbs up for finding that automaton strategy 🙂

The one that can be forged infinitely. Forge it 4 times, get it down to zero, play 7 of them.

            storm giant.
Honestly, the card is neutral and definitely belongs into your deck.
It has taunt and saved me in so many games in which i was behind, only to fill the board with 8/8 taunts, giving my opponent no way to punch through that wall.
It even combos with Animate Dead and Celestial Projectionist, but not with Zilliax and Irini, because it is not a mech.
Storm Giant can also be seen as backup if you fail to draw an Automaton

I tried your deck, going 10-1.
The loss came in the mirror, because he drew the mirror braker and i did not: Shard of the Naaru. That card neutralizes all opposing Automatons and also opposing magnetized mechs – mech decks were the only opposing decks that could make games close in any way. And if this was not enough, it can even be traded. What’s not to like?
(In turn, Storm Giants suffer less from opposing Shards of the Naaru, but I only had 2 mirror matches and I am not sure if the Giants would have saved me against Automatons backed with Shards.)

Bottom Line: Your deck is very good, but can be improved by cutting Ra-Den and Aman’Thul (just as you suggested), adding Storm Giant, and replacing The Light! It Burns! (which was never useful in 11 games) with Shard of the Naaru.

I tried shard. It’s great in the mirror but not good otherwise. The light it burns can kill 7 giants on the turn they spawned, automatically winning that matchup.

                December 13, 2023 at 3:15 pm

As posted below however, I did eventually added Shard for the mirror.

It’s good but I suggest cutting Ini, Ra-den and Aman’Thul as I did, and adding the 1-mana silence for the mirror.

    • Zombie69
      November 9, 2023 at 9:12 am

Actually you never get to turn 7 so you should probably cut Ra-den and Aman Thul as well. Maybe even Zilliax and Ini should go, hard to say.

honestly, without radiant elemental and sorcerer’s apprentice there is no point in this tavern brawl.

all the great options are in wild

So, first time since 2018 we’ve seen this and it’s limited to Standard cards.
Honestly, everything that I can think of that would be great here is Wild, now.
    Thoughts?

      November 8, 2023 at 11:55 am

      Answered my own question…
Enrage Warrior, dump the second instance of every card.

      • Tailsfromvienna
        November 8, 2023 at 12:17 pm

how would this improve the deck?

i also played enrage warrior, but with zero shadow reflections.
i had location/anima/acolyte in my opening hand and was happy that none of them was a shadow reflection.

Fireballs for some removes. Need to get out 3 Sorcerer’s Apprentice and have Arcane Intellect in hand. Then you get infinite draw for Cinderstorms/Shadow Reflections and kill. Can win as early as 4th round.

    Warrior beat priest consistently.
Just keep a deck which make armor and boardcler + the combo: togwaggle, explore ungoro, skulking geist

    Brawl Deck
    Class: Priest

    x2 Circle of Healing
    x2 Inner Fire
    x2 Northsire Cleric
    x2 Power Word: Shield
    x2 Mind Blast
    x2 Radiant Elemental
    x2 Shadow Visions
    x2 Wild Pyromancer

This deck relies on a few strategies, mainly ending with double Radiant+mind blasts.

I usually mulligan for Northshire/ Pyro/ Circle of Healing or Shadow Visions.

If you manage to get Northshire/ Pyro/ Circle of healing/ Shadow Reflections in your hand then your chances of winning are pretty high. Either start with Circle of healing or just toss a spell so that Pyro’s effect triggers. (Deals 1 dmg to all minions when you cast a spell) Shadow Reflection + Circle of Healing means you’ll get close to a full hand if you had double Northshires. I usually don’t try to pull this off until i have 3/4 mana.

I usually finish off the opponent with Double Radiants and 0 cost Mind Blast. (Which is relatively easy to get with your draw power)

Inner Fire was added in the event that a opportunity to attack arises, but it’s somewhat unnecessary. I mainly use it as an alternative to test or distract my opponent.

Wild Pyromancer + Power Word: Shield is great for clearing the field and a lot of people are using pretty low health minions. But if you manage to get Radiant Elemental you can pretty much clear the field if you alternate PowerWord between Pyro/Radiant.

    This deck works pretty well:
    1: get some reflection
2: get some aoe from scroll and glyph
3: draw the 3 elements of the combo and burn the enemy:)

Priest should be banned from this travern brawl.
Radiant and mind blast are the worst.
And radiant with power word: shield and inner fire is even worse. E

    Almost every is playing this.

Mind Vision and Psionic Probe are to get more Reflections btw

    • Mr Bump
      January 10, 2018 at 1:24 pm

Make sure you always have 6 Reflections and at least 4 mana before playing combo, Then Radiant, Radiant copy, Mind Blast, Mind Blast copy x 5

      • Larson
        January 10, 2018 at 2:37 pm

It does not make sense to play mind vision and psionic probe to get shadow reflections when you could just not play them and draw a shadow reflection from your deck without having to pay mana for it.

Didn’t really work for me. Could never get any radiant elementals…… Sub out Mind Vision and Psionic Probe. Sub in Power Word: Shield, Cold Light Oracle and Novice Engineer for draw:

      2x (1) Power Word: Shield
      2x (2) Mind Blast
      2x (2) Novice Engineer
      2x (2) Radiant Elemental
      2x (3) Cold Light Oracle

Mulligan for Radiant Elemental and Mind Blast…. then just cycle through
