Kobolds and Catacombs Release Day Deck Roundup

Expansion releases are always an exciting time. New cards means streamers and pro players get a chance to showcase their deckbuilding creativity. While many of these builds are still unrefined, it’s still fun to take a look at early iterations of what may soon be dominant archetypes.

For you, our readers, we’ve curated a few of our favorite lists from Day 1 of the Kobolds and Catacombs expansion!

On Day 1, lot’s of players are still refining their lists which gives aggro builds a big opening. cocosasa took full advantage of this in his highly aggressive Paladin.

Despite the low curve, the list does have a fair amount of reload in Divine Favor and Drygulch Jailor. Likewise, with a full stable of 1 and 2 drops, Call to Arms (my personal favorite card from the set) is bound to get a fair amount value on turn 4 before sticking a Blessing of Kings.

More surprising, perhaps, is the inclusion of Val'anyr on the top end of the curve alongside aggressive mainstays Sunkeeper Tarim and Leeroy Jenkins. If you already have the other pieces, this deck looks to be a good way to put the new Paladin Legendary weapon to good use!

Is it really possible that Rin, the First Disciple is more than just a meme? Dog, well known for breaking Quest Rogue at the start of the Journey to Un’goro meta, has had some early success with a control-heavy Warlock running the little gnome disciple.

While blowing up your opponent’s deck is certainly a flashy way to end a match, Rin isn’t the only win condition. With several large demons, this list can make great use of Master Oakheart and Skull of the Man'ari to cheat out powerful anti-aggro tools (including Voidlord) and stifle board-centric decks. Many times, Bloodreaver Gul'dan is more than enough to close out games.

Silence Priest is back! Or, at least for today, it is. Eloise was tearing it up with this overshadowed (get it? …anyone?) Priest archetype.

The list makes good use of Dragon Soul to pump out consistent threats when paired with the numerous spells already included in the archetype. Better yet, a deck once susceptible to removal now has a means finding its way back on board with Lesser Diamond Spellstone.

We all knew that day one of Kobolds and Catacombs would include a subset of players spitefully trying to break To My Side!. Hunter guru NickChipper takes an early lead with this minion-free list.

RDee managed to make his way up to Rank 5 with an impressive 23-3 record on the first day of the expansion. Even if the archetype doesn’t pan out this expansion, Lesser Emerald Spellstone and Flanking Strike are undoubtedly powerful cards.

There’s no denying that Rogue got a lot of powerful new tools this expansion. Many were speculating that Fal'dorei Strider and Elven Minstrel could resurrect many pros’ favorite deck: Miracle Rogue.

Xzierz was boasting a >80% win rate with this list through just under 40 games. Kingsbane paired with Cavern Shinyfinder and Deadly Poison feel right at home in this list, providing the deck with additional burst (sans minions).

With the addition of Explosive Runes and Aluneth, Secret Mage may be shifting towards a more aggressive curve, including the previously ignored Kabal Lackey.

Early indications suggest the new Secret is performing quite well. Even with the early curve, this deck has an incredible amount of gas. It turns out, drawing three cards at the end of each turn can be pretty good. It’s hard to imagine this deck will miss the top-end minion curve we saw during the Knights of the Frozen Throne expansion.

Keep up with Kobolds and Catacombs!

You can find more early Kobolds and Catacombs decklists (with regular updates) on our Kobolds and Catacombs Deck Lists article.

Please remember that, while some of these decks may have some early success, it takes awhile for the meta to settle. Posting these lists is not necessarily an endorsement of their long-term viability, but it’s certainly interesting to see some of the early ideas.

Thanks for reading everyone! Have fun and happy release day!

Want the Rogue weapon, but get Mage weapon, not bad. (Don’t want Shaman,Druid,Warlock,Warrior weapons…). On my new account secondary get Shaman Weapon, create it only to practice arena.

Collecto 1000* Gold in 3 days doing all the basic quest.

Play a lot of dungeon runs with all the heroes , lost in 4 or 5 Bosses.
It’s a lot of fun the Dungeon, more amusing that think it will be.

Got Hunter legendary weapon (extremely fun to play with, surprisingly).
First 56 packs (50 from gold, 3 from log in, 3 from Tavern Brawl) I got King Togwaggle and Temporus. The nest 3 from Dungeon Run quests I got Master Oakheart. Eh, looked like I rolled relatively low. Aw well, better luck next time!

Buuut the ones I did get are pretty fun to experiment with, so that’s a plus. I’ll probably craft Kingsbane and maybe The Darkness later for funsies, but my current collection is fun to play with a bunch of theory crafting and attempting to abuse mechanics x3
