Mulligans

General Mulligans

Never keep Mortal Coil when going first. You want a nice curve, optimally with a dragon like Twilight Drake or Twilight Guardian.

Aggro Mulligans

You need your burn spells an AOE's to stop early aggression. Coining out Imp Gang Boss can be big if he can't be removed in a clean way by your opponent.

Midrange Mulligans

Again build up a board of sticky minions.

Against Recruit Paladin: Keep your AOE's like Demonwrath and Hellfire. It's extremely important to clean up the board as often as possible.

Control Mulligans

Against control you want to build up a sticky board with high-health minions.

Ever since Kolento’s build of a Maly Lock a long time ago (you know, when BGH could be played turn 3 just for the body…) I was a big fan of this archetype. The combination of Warlocks Hero Power and the dragon synergy allowed a consistent performance. And bursting down your opponent with Darkbombs and Soulfires never felt so good.

I made up my mind and tried to combine this dragon theme and high burst potential with a Reno Lock. And this led to a quite fun deck to play.

Strategy

If you look at this list you will think: “Where is the burn for Malygos?”

Well, we have Soulfire and Darkbomb. With Malygos this would make 12 Mana for a total of 17 burst damage. So we definitely need the help of Emperor Thaurissan to reduce at least 2 cards for the combo.

But this deck has far more hidden burst potential. Essential are Dark PeddlerChittering Tunneler and Kazakus to deliver further burn, especially in combination with Brann Bronzebeard.

Cards we are looking for are:

Dark Peddler: Soulfire, Power Overwhelming

Chittering TunnelerSoulfireDarkbomb, Power Overwhelming,  Lifedrain or any other card that fits your matchup.

The following may sound crazy, but also picking 1-Mana spells from Kazakus works great with the OTK. Getting the “Deal 3 Damage”-option has a chance of 58,3 %. It takes some balls to go for it, but feels great if it works. And also: no opponent will expect you to pick the cheap spell.

Match-Ups

1. Against Aggro:

We have some early-game minions in form of Mistress of Mixtures and Dark Peddler. Moreover burn spells come in handy as removal since we don’t need to keep them for the Malygos-OTK. AOE’s like Demonwrath and Hellfire help with cleaning big early boards.

2. Against Midrange:

You can use the dragon package for tempo and midgame pressure. Blackwing Technician and Twilight Drake have solid bodies that help with getting board control, whereas Blackwing Corruptor and Book Wyrm enable board swings. Often you can use the board control to get in enough face damage so that burn spells are enough and Malygos‘ spellpower is not that necessary.

3. Against Control:

Go for value. The best turn is one where you are able to combine your Brann Bronzebeard with 2 explore cards like Kazakus and Netherspite Historian or Chittering Tunneler. Get a big Emperor Thaurissan cost reduction and close the game with Malygos + burst or Alexstrasza + burst.

Substitutions

Tar Creeper or Deathlord as early taunts to save your life-total against aggro. Doomsayer and Corrupting Mist are also great anti-aggro tools. You can take out Twisting Nether or Book Wyrm for them.
