General Mulligans

  1. Keep Historian still if you don't have a dragon. Only if the opponent is not playing a generally wild aggro class: Priest, Mage, Warlock (only ranks 10-1 too many Zoos 11+), Druid (Inverted of Warlock at 10-1 Expect Egg Druid), Warrior (might be a weird one but if you don't have any other 2 drop its worth the keep just so you have at least something to do against pirate), and lastly Rogue (At Ranks 5-1 Expect Tempo/Aggro Rogue so toss it)
  2. The other's are definite keeps every time

This deck guide is in progress and is being worked on actively.

Heart of a Dragon

Good ol’ Dragons get to have their fun playing with fire now. This deck seems rather unfair so far in the games I have played. It’s got everything you need to survive and everything you need to win. The power of  is just to crazy. This deck can easily survive against even the most aggro of decks including: Egg Druid, Pirate Warrior, Aggro Shaman, and Aggro Water Rogue. Each of those decks you can fight decently, but Egg Druid is the hardest. Against the slower match-ups like priest and mage get yourself damaged just enough for a battle rage and then have at it with the armor-ups, against priest I have been playing a game where I almost always armor-up if they hero power heal something, and it’s paid off. The rest of the guide will go over Mulligans, Reasoning, and Substitutions.

Card Reasoning

Dirty Rat

Dirty rat is a very very common in Taunt Warrior decks, and they normally run two rats and two Brawls, but this deck has enough control power beyond the Rat + Brawl combo that it doesn’t need 2 sets of it to still have control power. The the ways you can use Dirty Rat is very broad. Against the slower decks I recommend having an already valuable Brawl or have an Execute on hand, or at least some form to deal at least 7-8 damage to something depending on the opponent’s class. Mages and priest you want the minimum of 7 for Medivh, the Guardian, Archamage Antonidas, N'zoth, the Curruptor, Reno Jackson (only 6), Amara, Warden of Hope (8 this time). Against Beast Druids, Dirty Rat can be devastating as so many of their cards have the ‘choose one’ effect. Shaman match up’s you have a lot of possibilities, but prepare for it differently as Aggro has Flamewreathed Faceless and N’zoth Shaman has Earth Elemental. It is rarer in wild but if you go up against an Elemental Shaman you can really mess up their Elemental Chain. Best times would be after Servant of Kalimos or when their next turn will be turn 8 to possibly shut down a Kalimos, Primal Lord.

Sleep with the Fishes

This card has a numerous amount of combos to find value, and also a ton of general power. Below are a few combos listed. Sleep with the Fishes is a powerful card not only for it’s power

  1. 5 mana: Unstable GhoulSleep with the Fishes = 4 damage to everything but Ghoul (of course Unstable will die but not before you get to bring it home next turn, this one is better in the early game. Much so against decks like Egg Druid)
  2. 5 mana: Ravaging Ghoul + Sleep with the Fishes = 4 damage to all minions already down (One of the more common ones in the deck, and very powerful none the less)
  3. 7 mana: Unstable Ghoul + Ravaging Ghoul + Sleep with the Fishes = 5 damage to everything and 1 damage to Ravaging Ghoul. (Add and Acolyte at the start for a 3 card draw)
  4. This deck has two 10 mana powerhouse combos
        a) Ravaging GhoulAzure Drake + Sleep with the Fishes = 5 damage to everything but Azure and Ghoul.
        b) Primordial Drake + Sleep with the Fishes = 5 damage to everything but Drake.

Justicar Trueheart

The only armor gain in the entire deck but the most powerful in the game. Dropping Justicar alone is a massive change in how the game will play out. Yes this deck has the quest so hero power replacements are odd but the game will either end soon enough after you swap out for the power of Ragnaros, so drawing Justicar afterwards won’t be a problem. On the other hand if you are unable to drop the new hero power because you can’t stabilize your health total. You get Justicar to help make it possible to stabilize more quickly, so either way, drawing Justicar at a bad time is hard to do. Lastly if it happens and you just need a minion to play for some reason and you have already swapped hero powers Justicar won’t override Rag’s hero power and make you have armor again.

Chillmaw

Meet the star of the deck. This card is has some of the most insane control power in the deck. Firstly it can force a 2 minion trade just to be removed and then it can easily cause havoc with some 3 damage AoE. The only true way that he can be dealt with is by Entomb and Hex. Polymorph counts but. He in the Mage match-ups the 3 damage AoE does much much less. Thanks to Netherspite Historian and Stonehill Defender I’ve had games were I’ve played 4 chillmaws… It doesn’t matter what class you are but dealing with 4 Chillmaw’s is not going to go well… Chillmaw is also this deck’s best way to deal with Jade Druid. Eating up some of the small Jades before triggering its Deathrattle, which sets up nicely for a Sleep with the Fishes putting up to a 6 health minion out of commission once all is said and done.

Hey Thanks man! That is one of my goals I go for when I make decks. I prioritize interactivity quite a bit when I play my decks, but personally the paladin quest is more enjoyable when it comes to interactivity.

Why not the 2 mana 2/3 that becomes a 3/3 with charge while holding a dragon is it because it isnt a controlly type card sorry i dont know wild that well

Alexstrazza’s Champion is a great card in tempo decks, and I definitely plan to include it in the more tempo orientated version I plan on making. The problem is it’s not worth the control if you can’t activate it. You might as well pick up more control cards like doomsayer, or unstable ghoul. I do really like Alex’s Champion though.

why we don’t play shield slam ?
It’s powerfull with justicar and it’s an hard single target removal wich is pretty usefull with the armor gain after we play her …
Or it might be useless to play it because we change our hero power with rag and we can’t have much armor after we played it so it becomes dead card in hand ?

Shield Slam is good, but that also puts a lot of pressure on Justicar and post Rag the game should be closing out, if we wanted to run shield slam we would probably have to switch the line up and add some shield block and armor smith.

        ok i see
do you think Brann could be added in this list ?
instead of one acolyte, it would great perform with defender and historian. Also with goul to deal 2 damage or something else ^^

Hey, so I know the deck guide isn’t complete but I was wondering how playable the deck would be without Justicar and Chillmaw. Can I replace them?

Chillmaw is replaceable with another primordial drake, but Justicar is too vital with how this deck works.

It feel so odd that’s there is only one Sludge, as it is the best 5 cost taunt… why didn’t you picn only 1?

We needed the two Drakes for the Dragon Package to be more consistent. I might fade out something to put in the second sludge later.

The other reason is because for Curator value the Direhorn will nearly always be drawn out with the curator draw, and if the hatchling died then we’ll get the patriarch

The Stonehill defender can also give us sludge belcher with his battlecry.
It’s not useful to play two of them when we can easily have a second one with defender.

Agreed, and honestly Alley Armorsmith does better in a deck like this with a lot of other taunts, and when you want some “heal”. That is why I have actually removed sludge belcher from the list entirely. He just becomes a solid discover now.
