Could I replace a fireball or arcane intellect for Bloodmage Thalnos? I feel like there should be some form of spell damage

I would not replace a Fireball that’s for sure, those are your main sources of burn. I could see maybe cutting a Blizzard or Freezing Potion.

The deck is extremely terrible. I have tried this deck and I find it is no way to win if you do not have auctioneer in the first 15 cards. Even if you have auctioneer, it does not mean that you can win the game.

Clearly, you don’t know how to play freeze mage

Is there a decent replacement for Barnes? Not a fan of how RNG he brings to the table …… what about an ice block for more survivability?

Barnes can summon strasza, doomsayer, tharussian, auctioneer and antonidas. Just strasza is useless among them. (Just don’t play it when you don’t need a doomsayer) 6/7, which works pretty fine actually.

while very effective against aggro decks, this deck loses REALLY badly to slower jade decks and reno decks. slow jade decks will bide their time until they can get massive board gains that eat up all of your damage spells. reno decks can reno in between the turns where you develop your lethal damage, rendering your combo mostly useless. finally, while the miracle aspect of this deck is very novel, its way less reliable than the card draw in a more traditional freeze deck. very cool deck concept that might be viable later this year, but until reno is off the meta there’s very little hope of climbing with this deck.

I’ve been playing the Evolved Kobold Freeze Mage that was (somewhat) popular in the midrange Shaman meta and got rank 4 last season and was curious as to how this deck compared to it.

After testing this list and also watching the VODs to see how he plays the deck, I’m not really convinced this is a viable deck.

He played eight games on stream and beat two mid-jade Shamans that drew VERY slow starts, one Reno Mage where he won a coinflip to get Antonidas out of Barnes into 3 fireballs (very slim chance to win that game without getting this), one aggro Shaman where he drew both doomsayers in opening hand and nova+doomsayer to clear a board including 4 mana 7/7 on turn 5 (from my experience, the chance of frost nova doomsayer going off is very very low in this matchup when enemy has more than 2 cards in hand; 1 weapon charge + burn spell = RIP Doomsayer) and one more mid-jade Shaman.

He lost to a Renolock who played Reno between his burn turns (the disadvantage of this deck is that it doesn’t have a lot of burst in 1 turn, it can only 2-turn kill and it loses to reno in between), a Pirate Warrior, a Shaman that drew decently.

I feel like Kobold Freeze Mage performs better overall. I eat Jade Shaman alive no matter how well they draw; I’m nearly 100% in that matchup. Renolocks can win through Dirty Ratting Kobold or Thaurissan or getting too much Kazakus potion value, or I just draw badly, but overall the matchup is slightly favored for me. Aggro Shamans and face Pirate Warriors (not the board-oriented kind that runs Southsea Captain) wreck me unless they draw badly, but I’m sure this is the case for this deck as well. And Kobold Freeze Mage is not even more than a tier 3 deck.

This deck wrecks reno and handlock; oh boy.

Is there a general overview of how to play freeze mage? I’ve honestly never played this type of deck before but everyone seems to think that it’s amazing and I want to try it out.

Basically, freeze the board, stall with ice block and burn the enemy within 1-2 turns.

    Alex replacement?

    • Clark
      January 31, 2017 at 11:30 am

Literally none. Alex is an essential tool for freeze mage decks and it’s incredibly difficult to win without her.

I think burgly bully is decent in this kind of deck, not sure what to cut tho.

This new deck brings the freeze mage to the goal again, barnes combo very well, just play it in the midgame, after having spent doomsayer, you can put in antonidas field with cost 4, auctionner combo with spells cost 0, possibly will be the new Freeze mage on goal.

Not a freeze mage expert but Forgotten Torch x 2 seems an adequate replacement for the extra burn Antonidas provides.

    • Clark
      January 31, 2017 at 11:32 am

That’s why you’re not a freeze expert. Antonidas provides FAR more value than one extra roaring torch.

See all that 0 cast cards? with Antonidas on board all that 0 cost can be replaced with a fireball..

    MIND BLOWN
is it viable against aggro anything?

    • robot
      January 31, 2017 at 2:43 pm

It’s more than good against aggro, especially pirate warrior. You just freeze them to oblivion. I’ve played a handful of games and didn’t lose a single one to aggro, even when I was new with the list.

Probably Elemental. He’s a hard card to replace honestly mate

      I was wondering this myself,

How about Yogg? Since there are a lot of spells in this deck. Or maybe an Arcane Giant but I suppose it doesn’t do much other than bring a big body.

Maybe another forgotten torch. Antonidas is a very good finisher in this deck though because of all the low cost spells.

Pyroblast or eveolved kobold is probably best.
