Shudderwock

Shudderwock Card

Shudderwock is a 9 Mana Cost Legendary Shaman Minion card from the The Witchwood set!

Card Text

Battlecry: Repeat all other Battlecries from cards you played this game (targets chosen randomly).

Flavor Text

Beware the Shudderwock, my son. We're fresh out of vorpal daggers.

Shudderwock Card Review

It looks like the early leaks have turned out to be true. I was honestly hoping that it will be the case because of this card. Shaman’s power level is very low right now, but this is absolutely insane. There are LOTS of strong Battlecries, and while targets are random just like in case of Tess Greymane, there are lots of Battlecries that are always good.

In Wild, this could obviously be broken with the whole Jade mechanic. Jade Claws, Jade Spirit and such are Battlecries, so you will get a HUGE board after playing this, a board that your opponent just has to answer or he dies.

But looking at cards that are still in Standard, there are still quite a few good options. Any kind of Battlecry card draw, weapon destruction, Saronite Chain Gang (as shown on the stream), Bonemare, Fungalmancer, Guild Recruiter, Defender of Argus, Mind Control Tech, Stonehill Defender, Zola the Gorgon, Kalimos, Primal Lord and so on and so on. If you want to go all-in, you can even play Yogg-Saron, Hope's End and then double his Battlecry!

Even though it’s only a 6/6 for 9 mana, you can’t really look at that, as it will do so much immediately, heavily depending on what deck you’re playing and what you’ve already done this game.

While it’s hard to say what deck exactly will this go into, it looks very promising!

Card rating: 9/10

Just played game against shaman battle cry…can definitely say that some battlecry cards need nerfed in relation to this card. Got to a point where he had fatigued and played it then I got stuck in an endless loop of about 40 cards that ended up with him having another 2-3 shudderwocks in hand EVERY TURN. With that life steal bug card going off it is legit impossible to win.

This might be a dumb question but how does this card work with something like totem cruncher(4 mana 2/3 taunt, destroy your totems GAIN +2/+2 for each destroyed). Would it give the stats to a random minion or does it act as if shudderwock cast this battlecry for himself

Yes, yes it can. Shudderwock has a Battlecry that does things, therefor it would be added to the pool of Battlecries triggered. Like Trump said, adding Grumble’s Battlecry into the pool with 2 Shudderwoks + Murmuring Elemental would be basically an OTK.

so we saw from the reveal stream that this card be very strong, and that it works with Hero cards.

The Hagatha synergy is terrible lol, but THRALL!

Instead of all that shuffle minions into your deck crap play cards that summon dudes. This is already good in a Shaman Evolve Shell

Then you have a big end game play where you play the Work it summons a bunch of trash and evolves twice for a NZoth-ish effect. Prolly put some card dray battlecries in there too. For a NZoth/Ultimate Infestation effect.

Apparently when you use the the thrall battlecry to evolve this the effect stops, as shown in an amaz video versus dog. So thrall is a nombo for shudderwock

This card i very good if you get the effect. This is really good with stuff like hagatha. Dealing 3 damage to all minions when you play this is insane. One thing i thought about is what if you played this ones then bounce it. When you play it again does this take this cards effects also? Like it does this cards battlecry twice?

This card will be in every shaman deck that aims for lategame.

Play a stonehill and possibly servant of kalimos before this with a things like Sauronite Chain Gang and the value is already insane.

There might be mix of Hagatha, Guild Recruiter, Argus, Ooze, Primordial Drake, Master Oakheart, Black Knight etc.

Funnily Tinkmaster Overspark (antisynergy with Sauronite) might see play with this because it might be hard to find a turn to play this without, Basically your opponent will have a 1/1 or 5/5 after this will be dropped and Ezpz, you got the game. But tinkmaster is decent in Void Lord, resurrect meta anyways.

C’thun deck obviously. Can be played before or after C’thun, better before obviously.

    Yea, and OTKs.

Looking for someone to clarify, if you were to play this on an empty board and you had already played Zola, would the Zola battlecry be able to hit it self, it seems that it would depend on if Shudderwock is the one supposedly casting the battlecry.

This could be a rather decent late game option in an Elemental Shaman deck seeing as pretty much every elemental has a efficent, spell-like battlecry, and it will copy Hagatha’s battlecry too. All you’d need to do is throw down an elemental the turn before you drop this.

This is better than Tess Greymane for sure.

Thank god Shaman can’t add this card back to the hand in the same turn they play it.

I wonder… if you play this on an empty board, and at one point you played one of the Brewmaster cards (return minion to hand) you could repeatedly play this turn after turn.

Just put a bunch of direct damage, board control and heal battlecries in.

I kinda want to try this idea now, but truthfully I hope my free legendary isn’t him lol

(Guess this only works if all battlecries happen regardless at want point he is returned to hand)

Turn 4-7: Play Saronite and Nightblade and/or Lifedrinker (just saw this card and added it here)
Turn 6-8: Play Grumble (has to be after Saronite)
Turn 9+: Play Shudderwock: Creates a copy of itself, deals 3 damage face and then bumps copy back to hand (costs 1 mana).
Turn 10: Play 10x 1-mana Shudderwock for 30 damage face.

Plenty of good battlecry cards to tech :
Chief Inspector (even though Ice Block isn’t standard anymore)
Priestess of Elune, Darkscale Healer, Fungal Enchanter, etc… if you need a bit more survival
Fill the rest of the deck with good control cards and draw.

            Ok, apparently Brode was wrong…

All I can say is you play as many “3 damage to face” cards and both Saronite, so you get 66% chance (instead of 50%) to get a saronite effect before grumble (and deal 6, 9, or 12 damage instead of 3). You can also add Zola the Gorgon for safety 9-mana backup (on empty board) and/or the Baleful Banker.

Imagine the cards such as “Big time racketeer” “Doppleganster” and “Saronite Chain Gang” (I don’t know if it summons a 6/6 or original minion though) It will work with “Thrall, Deathseer”. If you go second you can even save the coin and coin and play “Murmuring Elemental” toghether with it. Great potential. Just to find out if it’s strong enough to carry Evolve Shaman.

Definitely an interesting legendary. Shame that Jades are rotating out – excuse, shame that SHAMAN Jades are rotating out (Druid’s can be deleted from the game for all I care). In Wild you can refill your board with super strong green men (some of them even with Taunt to protect you). In Standard… well, I don’t know how powerful UNTARGETED Battlecries are for Shaman. Like, I wouldn’t run Fire Elemental with this guy. Nor Hagatha (kill your own stuff) or Kalimos (the Elemental Invocation will be chosen randomly). I don’t see this legendary as powerful right now, but with the upcoming 5 expansions Shaman can get good battlecries and make this worth it. So 2.5/5 stars now, possibly 4.5/5 stars in the future.

Why not Kalimos? He doesn’t have a targeted skill, the only annoying part could be filling the board with 1/1. But what happens with Grumble and this thing? You can repeat this fellow for 1 ?

With Kalimos you usually always choose 3 damage AOE. Damage to oposing hero or restoring health are not bad, but normally lackluster. Filling board with 1/1s is not what you want in the end game, and it can happen to you… Nope, don’t like it.

Well if you have also played the DK wouldn’t be bad either . BUT if it triggers both saronite (first) and Grumble afterwards it will crush the game. Literally

OK, so I’ve been saying Brode and Day[9]’s stream on Twitch. I had never thought Saronite Chain Gang would double this minion and not invoke another Chain Gang. So with that Combo in mind, this already has 4/5 stars in Standard for me, and as I said, it can get broken and go to 4.5 or even 5 stars.

What if you play it with brann + the 2 mana 1/1 elemental which doubles next battlecry?

It says from cards you played not from battle cries resolved. I would assume this wont stack.

Well actually maybe nothing since it says “other”? Idk if it excludes just the one battlecry from when you play it or all these battlecries

Looks like Blizzard wants to experiment more with these Yogg-Saron-like effects. This could potentially be very good, plus I like the card art.

You Need to have Summoned a copy of it (saronite chain gang) and then Zola has to go off. Because Zola says ”of a friendly minion” which means all other friendly miniors except Zola
