So keep in mind you hopefully already drew 2 secrets with arcanologists, plus you have an Ice block in play.
So now at best this will pull 2, maybe 3 secrets from your deck.
Mage secrets don’t normally work well together, and Eater of Secrets is a tech card.
This doesn’t do enough and is too easy to counter.
Maybe some deck could use it, but probably not.

Remember when everyone underrated mysterious challenger because it couldn’t work in a deck. Well this is nothing like it this is actually not playable.

This card is interesting, but i think it is too late game to be powerful, but i will reserve judgement, calling 3 to 3.5 of 5 prior to launch. it is likely to be effectively free in decks that would utilize it, as it has theoretically gained mana if you can pull 3 secrets with it. and the decks that run it would likely be pulling at least 4. mage secrets, per card, are much more intimidating to stare at. Figure, this card could pull a free Vaporize, Counterspell, Mana Bind, Mirror Entity, and Frozen Clone. this card would give me serious pause if it pulled more than 2 secrets for my opponent.

When you play this in discover mage you propably have drawn almost all of your secrets sofor example you play this on eight you get ice block and/or ice barrier onto the battlefield. If you play secret mage you can get mirror image or potion of polymorph but still you have arcanologists and arcane intellect si you propably have drawn your secrets.

What exactly are you talking about? Mysterious Challenger was a 6 mana 6/6 that literally did the exact same thing. Blizzard has officially lost it, arguably MC was OP, but now they’ve done to the exact opposite end of the spectrum and made a terribly UP card that will not see serious play. How do you go from a 6 mana 6/6 to an 8 mana card with no body, what is with the variance here… This can’t be that hard, surely there was some sort of middle ground here, 6 mana no body, or even 8 mana but make it a 4/4 or 5/5.

This whole me expansion so far has inconsistencies like this. The new “Deathsbite” is just another hilarious example showing that Blizzard has no clue what their doing any more. I mean they quite literally made a clone of DB except it’s still 4 mana and now it’s 2/2 with the same DR effect. Why make cards that aren’t going to see play?

yeah i agree with you. Its too slow to see play and I was saying I like the card art. The actual design of the card from a fundamental stand point has already been used in Mysterious Challenger like you said. This card isn’t original by any means, but I do find it interesting that they are making more higher cost cards.

This is just a rediculous RNG “oops I win” for the tempo secrets deck, if they hit it off glyph…Otherwise it’s just a giant troll MeMe card.

Unless they remove the secret cap though, this could only pull up to 5 secrets, so not really every secret. (It’s still an ok card though)

Clever way to nerf secret mage (ie: Yogg + all the spell generation cards) while making it look like a gift to secret mage.

So this is kind of like Dr. 6, which is a good comparison. The disadvantage is that it doesn’t have a body and is more expensive, the advantage is that Mage secrets are obviously more powerful than Pally secrets. Is this in fact good enough to build a “Secret Mage” deck different than the one that currently exists? I’m sure there’ll be a Mage secret in this set, and its quality will certainly help it along, but I’m not convinced that the mage secrets are impactful enough to want to fill your deck with them. Dr. 6 had a lot more going for him, and the Pally secrets were weaker, but were also less cumbersome.

Honestly, I don’t have a clue. I’m going to hedge on the pessimistic side, but there is a good chance that I’m flat out wrong.

If you think this card is back, you are wrong. Quote me on it. Screenshot this and we can talk about it in 2-3 months.

      I’ll bite.

“It’s bad and will have little to no impact on the meta.

Some troll players will add one or two of them to thier secret mage decks.

The only exception to this being bad is if you are playing secrets and hit it off glyph.”

Screenshot that. Throw $5 on it. Money in the bank.

I don’t think you’ll have to wait till October to know how bad it is…

You are totally right. After all, it has been almost an entire month now, the balanced meta has been solved and it will never change for the rest of Hearthstone’s existence.

Looks like a nerf to Cabalist tome, and Glyph.

First of all full christmass tree secret aint that good, they just activate them with what ever crap they can spare.
Second most secrets are allready drawn and played through arcanologist if you run a normal secret mage, putting in more secrets allso means weaker early game and clunky starting hands…

Third it’s sersiously slow. If you wanna combo this with Medivh, just pyro or firelands portal as a burn mage does.

I cant see how this will see play in a deck that’s tier 3 or higher. Maybe in wild since than you have effigy and with a mediv combo it means they cant even kill the 8 mana cost minion since it will summon a new one.

And a nerf to Babbling Book and Shimmering Tempest.
And a nerf to Mage Arena in the epic slot.

It’s good they made it an epic. That is -1 meteor +1 blank for arena. I agree the mage epics are to good in arena.

First Mage card in a while that I can just flat out say it’s bad.

In a world where you probably have Ice Block still active at 8 mana, and you already played your tempo secrets by now (probably for free), chances are you’ll pull out either a few meh secrets, or secrets that won’t impact the board.

Counterspell is great and all, but not for 8 mana. Since this doesn’t actually impact the board, this is more or less giving your opponent a free turn unless you play literally no secrets the entire game.

      August 1, 2017 at 11:22 am

Just a quick aside to bring up that even if you play no secrets all game, this won’t work if the secrets are in your hand.

Just an awful card, probably to nerf Primordial Glyph and other random effects.
